Good article from Charlie at Halfwheel.

Set's the scene nicely

InterTabac-2024-Welcome-scaled.jpg

Hallo from Dortmund, Germany.

After a one year hiatus, I am back to cover InterTabac, a trade show that I’ve been covering for more than a decade. As has been well-documented before, this trade show has grown leaps and bounds and now draws a near-complete roster of non-Cuban cigar companies, a stark contrast to 2012, when many prominent brands had little to no presence.

Looks like quite an event. Interesting to see how focused some cigar brands are to a particular consumer profile. Some presentations and logos are a total turn off to me yet someone else would say "I got to get a box of those!" And vice versa.

The vendors really spent some money to be there and showcase their portfolios.

Exactly. Some are very gaudy and would instantly steer me away. Very "Ed Hardy" looking. 😆 Sadly, Habanos has started down this path. I can't afford them nowadays anyway. So, no loss to me.

And it could be the cigar you've been dreaming to smoke if it were in a plain bundle.

Would love to hear about your favorite booths, upcoming releases that have your eye, and the biggest cigar/accessory gimmick you see at the show. Hope you have a blast!

No Kirby

No need for Habanos shills when Habanos isn’t there, I guess.

Please don't start to like the "skull" branding fad for the BR/Nudies.

The Skull 77 is a decent cigar actually! Have tried the el unico couple times, it's just too fat for me.

@El Presidente Did you happen to visit the HR Robaina booth? Was there even an official HR booth? I saw HR listed in some of the intertabak program/literature and read HR himself might be making an appearance with a new non Cuban blend. I'm fascinated by the somewhat mysterious journey the  HR brand has been on. I really enjoyed his initial release and was perplexed when his brand slowly seemed to evaporate from most of the market. I'm also curious how he's allowed to have a farm in Cuba and sell Non-Cuban cigars from his own brand.

He never actually "left" Cuba. The government knows its not all him running the show and that most likely he doesn't have any involvement in the day to day operations. He's just the face of the franchise getting his royalties. John
