JohnS Posted August 22, 2024 Posted August 22, 2024 Wait, Robert Downey Jr. is making how much to return to Marvel? Robert Downey Jr.'s Marvel pay has netted him half a billion dollars. By Joe Allen - Updated August 12, 2024 Marvel Studios / Walt Disney Productions It’s fair to say that, since Robert Downey Jr. left the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the franchise has fallen on some hard times. Avengers: Endgame was one of the highest grossing movies in box office history, but since then, Marvel’s box office dominance has faltered as they have added television to their lineup and flooded the market with more stuff than even die-hard fans can keep up with. That’s why the news that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to Marvel to play Doctor Doom was met with such a major uproar. The news that he would be returning as the character, and that Joe and Anthony Russo would be coming back to direct, was a strategic retreat for Marvel, moving them back onto the safe ground that has worked for them in the past. That retreat comes with a cost, though, and it’s a high one for Marvel. According to Variety, Marvel had to pay the Russos $80 million to return to direct Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, and they had to pay RDJ “significantly more” to get him to return in this new role. The Russos’ deal reportedly does not include any back-end compensation, but it does include bonuses that kick in if the movie makes $750 million and then $1 billion. Downey’s contract, meanwhile, includes perks like private jet travel, a security detail, and a “trailer encampment” for the new films. Downey is reportedly the highest earner from the Marvel universe, having netted between $500 million and $600 million over the course of his time with the studio. Now, it seems Downey is ready to take even more of Disney’s money. Time will tell whether it’s worth it. Source: https://www.themanual.com/culture/robert-downey-jr-salary-marvel-return/ 3

Oh well it's obviously worth it...for him 😁 It's an insane amount of money of course but I genuinely believe there would be no MCU without RDJ and it's "nothing" compared to how much Disney made thanks to him. I'm not the biggest fan of the Marvel movies but still, what an actor and what a comeback 🤯 4
JohnS Posted August 22, 2024 Author Posted August 22, 2024 There's no doubt that Marvel need him more than he needs them. Good luck to him for getting that deal! 1 1
Puros Y Vino Posted August 22, 2024 Posted August 22, 2024 In the comics, Doom is imposing. RDJ is a pipsqueak in comparison. I'm sure he'll be donning some armor as a boost. I read Mads Mikkelson lost out to him for this role. I would have preferred him. Nonetheless z should be interesting.
01Vert Posted August 22, 2024 Posted August 22, 2024 He was smart enough on the first Iron Man to include pay increasing, basically, after every successful movie. It was the main reason Disney wrote him out as it was thought to be impossible to make a profit with successive movies.

Mads Mikkelson would have been an amazing Dr Doom! Bit of a shame that they would rather do a re-run with RDJ rather than going in a different direction and trying to build something new.

Mads is an incredible actor, he would have been a great Doom too for sure.
Shakey Posted August 22, 2024 Posted August 22, 2024 RDJ was the anchor of a film series that did ~$30B in sales, his comp seems reasonable relative to the earnings. 2
Fuzz Posted August 23, 2024 Posted August 23, 2024 It will be Doom from Earth 11029. He will fight the Avengers of the MCU, and when unmasked they will all be shocked to see it is Tony. Then the real Doom will appear and kick his arse back to Earth 11029.
