JohnS Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 The good folk at Cigar Authority discussed this question this week. And it had me intrigued because it's not a question I'd considered before. Sure, one could have favourite cigars they prefer when doing a round, but are there cigars that are better suited for a myriad of outdoor weather conditions (i.e. sun, wind, warm or cold weather)? The following topics discuss this subject, but it's been awhile since it's been discussed... Over to you... 1

Chibearsv Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 I prefer NC while golfing since there’s less chance to have burn or construction trouble. My favorites are the Presidente size Hoyo Excalibur (light), MOFOH Spada Gorda (medium), Ashton Aged Maduro (full). Depends on my mood and the weather. I prefer lighter cigars the hotter it is. Today it’s mild temperature and high humidity so I’ll go with MOFOH Trinity Robusto, Spada Gorda, and CAO Columbia…all medium. 2
Wookie Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 I'm torn. Sometimes nice to have something you don't need to think about, other times nice to savor something. Probably depends on competitiveness of the round. 1
chasy Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 Cigars distract me while I play. If it’s just a casual round I’ll light up a Canonazo, otherwise I’ll have one afterwards. 3
btort910 Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 Always smoke on the golf course. Usually one cigar for each nine. Always NCs because I enjoy focusing on the nuances of a CC and can't do that while golfing. Any of my regular rotation NCs will do as long as they don't have a nic kick. 3
loose_axle Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 Usually always an NC and a smaller ring gauge for golf for the same reasons given by everyone above. The Carlotta’s and BLTC Santa Muerte Lonsdales have been my go to’s in the last couple of years. 2
zeedubbya Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 Dunhill Varaderos— fave golf course smoke.. *** 🤣 No really, Custom rolls, Padrón 2000s, Lusis if I’m playing in an outing and I need some time. I can make a Lusi last about 12 holes, which is about perfect. Fire it up on about #6 and smoke it sloooowww…or the trashiest looking RYJ EL you can find (sealed box from an LCDH in Europe, terrible all around, made me want to kick things- should have demanded replacements, horrible cigar). 3
Rega25 Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 I noticed higher ring gauges tend to stay lit better when it is windy on the course. I also second bringing everyday smokes unless it’s a special occasion because they can start to get wonky burns and tunnel when it’s windy and get stepped on sometimes if you’re putting them on the ground when you hit 2
westg Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 You would need a cigar after this...on the 18th. Quintero Favs are an incredibly robust cigar...well suited to the outdoors. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C7jY-eJuAEh/?igsh=MWprMDQ2YWMxbzJwZw== 3
Fuzz Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Depends. If I'm handing them out, then it is the strongest cigars possible... to screw up my competitor's game. 3
REesq Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 I don’t play that much anymore, but when I did, short and thick. I got tired of leaving them lying on the course, so I simply learned to swing while smoking. Did end up with a fair number of holes in my left shirt sleeve. 2
Edicion Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Monte Open Eagle has been called a good golf cigar. 2 1
cigaraholic Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 I’m usually a two cigar front nine back nine player. When I was young CC’s were too precious to me to smoke on the golf course, I’d smoked a couple of large Arturo Fuente. In my 40s my cigar stash had grown considerably and I took the attitude that life’s too short, smoke CC’s. So it was 2 DC’s, a Hoyo on the front and one of the other ones on the back. 5 years ago I dropped down to Robustos and Corona Gordas. Since Cigarmageddon it’s been a Hoyo Palmas Extra or Super Partagas on the front and a Olivia Churchill on the back. For me, better cigars make the round more enjoyable but have no impact on my scorecard. 2

Maybe it’s the length being good for putting them in holders or what not? Usually if I smoke 2, I’ll burn a Robusto or Corona of some sort on the first 6-9, but I am always looking forward to the Lusi, Hoyo or Punch DC. I smoked an SLRDC only once on the course but it felt sort of “wrong” since I have only a handful of them. And yes, too bad that can’t still be a reality, with moronic prices. 2
Bada_Bing_NJ Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 PLG has been good while playing. It's been a long time since I smoked on the course. For me it can not be hot or humid outside, little wind I don't mind. Usually start when temps get below 80F for me to enjoy on the course around September-October Trinidad Reyes has been a favorite also. I also find it more enjoyable when others are 💨💨⛳ which is rare for me these days. 2
MagicalBikeRide Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 Golf here frequently looks like this - so cigars are rare. 1

LordAnubis Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 I have hundreds of NCs purely for golf. They can fall, get wet, I can ditch them at will. 4 years ago I used to smoke any CC. Now days the CCs are too high end for the course. 3
QDOguy Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 I usually play in the morning, so i prefer a milder cigar. Private Stock #1 was my go to cigar. Mild, creamy and it would last nine holes. However, I don't think they are being made anymore. 2
Havanaaddict Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 Guys always used to tell me I don’t wanna smoke a good cigar while I’m playing golf. I never understood that golf is the perfect time to smoke a cigar. You’re riding in a little cart not a care in the world you’re outside breathing fresh air usually on a sunny afternoon. I smoke what I enjoy four rounds of golf usually two cigars on the front 2 cigars on the back nine. I’m not saying you have to smoke cc, if you enjoy an NC then you enjoy a NC. Maybe it’s just me. I don’t take golf seriously I’m very lucky to be one of those people that is a natural. I played bogey golf and I’m happy with that. 2
