bluenote Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 Hi everyone, I live in Toronto, which is quite humid during the spring/summer. I have always stored my cigars in 2 wooden desktop humidors (Andorini brand). 50 count for Cubans/100 for non-Cuban. I keep those in my basement (I have A/C). In the spring, my cigars always smoke pretty well, the RH in my humidors were about 65%. However, as the spring/summer presses on, my RH in my humidors would creep up to 67% or sometimes 68%, despite using 65% Bovedas. As a result, I would start having issues with relights, tight draws, etc. I tried 62% Bovedas, but it wouldn't do much to bring down the humidity in the humidors. My ambient rh in the basement in summer would be about 65/66%. Problem is I have ac, but I need to mostly close the vents or else it'll get way too cold down there. summer temps in basement is around 65F However, this year, I invested $200 in a room dehumidifer. What a game changer! My ambient RH is now about 50%, and as a result, my humidors are sitting nicely at 62%-64%. The dehumidifier also adds a few degrees to the basement temp, keeping it at 68-70F. I no longer struggle to get my humidor RH down anymore, and my cigars smoke perfectly. Very happy! For those struggling to get their RH down, I highly recommend a room dehumidifer. Bovedas can only do so much, I found out you have to bring down the ambient RH to allow Bovedas to do their thing. 2 1
