JohnS Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 A Davidoff Cigar With Cask-Aged Filler The Davidoff Grand Cru Diademas Finas were created in the spirit of Bordeaux wine Jul 2, 2024 - By Thomas Pappalardo Davidoff is releasing the fourth and final part of its “Cigar History Re-Rolled” series, which brings back discontinued sizes for a limited run. In this instance, rather than resurrecting a retired cigar, Davidoff offers an entirely new release. The Davidoff Grand Cru Diademas Finas not only represents the first time that a Grand Cru is made in the Diademas Finas size, but also includes tobacco aged in a wine barrel, which differs from the typical Grand Cru blend. The cigars are expected to arrive in shops this week. The motivation for the cask-aged tobacco stems from Zino Davidoff’s passion for Bordeaux wines. The wine’s blending methods served as inspiration behind the creation of the Grand Cru cigars back in 1946. Bordeaux is made using three primary grapes and Grand Cru’s filler blend consists of three different Dominican tobaccos, but the San Vicente seco filler is the key leaf. Davidoff says that it was aged for six months in a Premier Grand Cru Classé red wine cask from Bordeaux, France. Measuring 6 3/4 inches by 50 ring gauge, the double-tapered Diademas Finas is clad in a light Connecticut-seed wrapper from Ecuador over a Dominican binder. According to the company, the cigar has a mild to medium-bodied character. Davidoff’s “Cigar History Re-Rolled” series includes the Signature No. 1 Limited Edition, Millennium Blend Series Lancero Limited Edition 2023 and Aniversario No. 1 Limited Edition 2023. For those interested in pairing this cigar with wine, Davidoff recommends a red Bordeaux, particularly from the Right Bank. Davidoff Grand Cru is made at Cigars Davidoff in the Dominican Republic. Production of the Diademas Finas is limited to 4,050 boxes of 10 cigars for the U.S. market. It has a suggested retail price of $57 each. Puros Y Vino Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 Oooof $57/stick? 😬 Davidoff definitely taking advantage of Habanos' price hikes. Interesting cigar though. I have a really old book that talks about a cigar making method where cheaper, lower quality Havana filler is dunked in Catalan wine (a Spanish version of Port I believe). This "softens" the leaves apparently and imparts extra flavour. This cigar with its' wine age filler is somewhat similar I guess. 1
JohnS Posted September 16, 2024 Author Posted September 16, 2024 An update as it is now in stores... Davidoff Cigar with Wine Cask-Aged Tobacco Now In Stores A Davidoff cigar designed for wine lovers is now in retail shops. Called Davidoff Grand Cru Diademas Finas, the limited-edition smoke contains filler tobacco that was aged for six months in a Premier Grand Cru Classé red wine cask. Rolled with a Connecticut-seed wrapper from Ecuador, a Dominican binder and three different Dominican filler tobaccos, the Davidoff Grand Cru Diademas Finas measures 6 3/4 inches by 50 ring gauge and comes in a double-tapered figurado format. Unlike regular production Grand Cru cigars, the limited-edition Diademas Finas has cask-aged Dominican San Vicente filler in its blend. The cask-aged filler is meant to give the cigar a fruity character reminiscent of a fine Bordeaux wine. Davidoff says that the Grand Cru Diademas Finas starts with notes of citrus, pepper and roasted nuts before developing aromas of dark cherries, oak wood and earth. As the cigar burns, touches of walnut, fresh spice and vanilla emerge. While the Grand Cru Diademas Finas can be enjoyed on its own, Davidoff says it pairs particularly well with a French red wine. The cigar’s roots date back to 1946, when brand founder Zino Davidoff first created a cigar line inspired by winemaking. Today, Davidoff continues to innovate with its cigar blends, cultivating 15 different terroirs in the Dominican Republic. These unique growing regions produce tobaccos with sophisticated flavor profiles that form the framework of many modern Davidoff cigars. Grand Cru Diademas Finas marks the fourth and final entry in Davidoff’s “Cigar History Re-rolled” series, which resurrects discontinued cigars from its White Band lines and brings them back to life for limited-edition runs. Previous cigars included the Limited Editions of the Signature No. 1, the Millennium Lancero and the Aniversario No. 1. For its final release, Davidoff put a twist on the concept: A new size and blend for the Grand Cru line, made in a vitola that’s historically significant to the company. Grand Cru Diademas Finas shares the same size dimensions as the Davidoff Diademas Finas, a limited-edition cigar launched in 2006 to honor the birthday of Zino Davidoff. The figurado returned for another limited-edition run in 2018 to celebrate 50 years of Davidoff White Band cigars. Davidoff Grand Cru Diademas Finas ships in 10-count wooden boxes and has a suggested retail price of $57 per cigar. Only 4,050 boxes are available in the U.S. market. The cigars are rolled at the Cigars Davidoff factory in the Dominican Republic. Source: https://www.cigaraficionado.com/article/davidoff-cigar-with-wine-cask-aged-tobacco-now-in-stores 2
Puros Y Vino Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 Very cool. This would be a great way for them to re-introduce the original Chateau series(and compensate the actual Chateaus for using their IP) 😁 Otherwise, assume these are aged in casks of Thunderbird. 😛 1
Glass Half Full Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 I've sampled one also. Found the flavors and transitions excellent...but for $57 a piece they darn well better be. Enjoyed it, but will not be buying a box. A fine CC even at today's prices could be had for less IMO. 2

Glass Half Full Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 Halfwheel reviewed them just this week, fyi... https://halfwheel.com/davidoff-grand-cru-diademas-finas-limited-edition-collection/442821/ 2
SUP8333 Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 At $57 a pop, I'd rather grab a bottle of first growth and let the aging happen in my mouth. 2
