IamJoHo Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Hey all I’m Josh and this is my first post here and coming to you from Miami. I recently received my first Habanos a Montecristo Open Master from a neighbor and by everything I could study on it seemed legit. So of course I asked do you have the ability to get others and of course he said yes. So I purchased 5 from a friend of his. So far I feel like everything look legit and I can even see micro printing on the Cohiba bands although I can’t get it focused enough to really read it. But hoping you all will be able to give me your opinion and the I can start enjoying Habanos on a regular basis and join your family. Now for the pictures.
El Presidente Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 The Cohiba certainly look rough but of course that could simply be the photo
IamJoHo Posted May 2, 2024 Author Posted May 2, 2024 Don’t think it’s the photo @El Presidente. Now I definitely think the bands are 100% but I don’t think the cigars are. I cut about an inch off the Novedosos and construction looked good so I gave it a smoke. Tongue burned from it and really had no flavor. Smoked the Monte about an hour later and was much smoother although was still lacking. 1 1

The internet is full of people who have a suspect Cuban cigar and then proceed to slice open and dissect THE ENTIRE CIGAR. Once they observe that the innards are good quality long filler they then try to convince themselves and others that they did the right thing by sacrificing the entire cigar "for science." So far, you are the only one who has had the common sense to cut an inch off the end and inspect that first. Thank you for raising my estimation of cigar smokers around the world. 1

Lol, I'm glad I could give you hope for us all. 1

Seriously, I would have just lit it up and smoked it if it was to my taste, otherwise I'd have put it down but that's just me, of course one does what he feels like doing. 👍 1

Lamboinee Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 Welcome! Tell me more about your slicing and dicing? What did you expect to see? How did it compare with what you actually saw? Have you sliced any more things open? On 5/2/2024 at 11:50 AM, IamJoHo said: I'm glad I could give you hope for us all. But I have like 5 hopes. Cherry Hope. Vanilla Hope. Naveah that's heaven spelled backwards hope. Faith Hill's sister Hope Hill. And hope on a rope. 1 1
gormag38 Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 Yeah these are probably custom rolls with legit bands, it looks like. The cigars themselves just look to be in too rough a shape, imo.
GerardMichaelTX Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 Is the pigtail normal for that particular vitola of Cohiba? I know it's normal for a Lancero but Robustos should have a flatter cap and no pigtail. Despite how rough that Cohiba looks, it's got a lot of toothiness so it might be a pretty enjoyable smoke.

The only cigar it could be is a Siglo de Oro and it looks a little long for that. And also it's highly, highly unlikely that the Novedosos is genuine. They haven't been officially released yet and the maybe 100 boxes that have gone out went to VIPs. The Hoyo Escogidos, Boli Soberanos and Monte Dumas might be legit but the Boli does look pretty rough. The Cohibas I'd bet against. 1
