For the first few years of being into cigars, I did what I think many people do and "ranged" a lot trying all the different vitolas and marcas, and trying to get a sense of what I like and don't and so on. But after a while, I wanted to try to settle on some favourites, buying boxes, aging them etc. I think also like a lot of people, as a beginner, I was into milder and creamier smokes e.g. Hoyo Epi 2 and as I've got more experienced, I can handle more strength like Bolis.

For daily / regular smokes, I tend to mainly have PCs (really anything with a 42 RG) and Robustos (really anything with 46-50 RG). To my mind, there's not a world of difference between a PC and a Corona. I think of a Corona Gorda or a Hermosos No.4 as a Robusto. Anything outside of that -- including Churchills and Londsdales -- I consider "special" and have yet to venture into boxes. I am aging a single Upmann Sir Winnie and a few other single sticks.

Given these caveats, at the moment I have settled on:

PCs

Por Larrañaga Petit Coronas

Bolivar Petit Coronas

Partagas Aristocrats

Montecristo No 4

Robustos

H. Upmann Connoisseur No. 1

Juan Lopez No 2

Ramon Allones Specially Selected

Partagas Serie D4

Quai d'Orsay No. 50

Hoyo Epicure Especial

Of these, the only one I'm currently unhappy with are the Monty 4s which have been consistently bad from this current box. I once had a Monty 3 which was out of this world, milk chocolate, but the 4s just aren't there. I recently ordered some Fonseca Cosacos with a view to them potentially taking the "spot".

I have also enjoyed Punch 48 which could be added to the Robusto selection soon, I find Punch "hits different" as the kids say. I have ordered some Upmann 46s also, because I generally love the Upmann line and Rob's descriptions of their brashness and boldness are intriguing. My favourite cigars ever are the Sir Winnie and Connie As, but the price is a bit much for a whole box.

Anyway, what are your absolute "workhorses"?

Anything Ramón Allones, H. Upmann and Juan Lopez. I too prefer the sweetness and creaminess in the cigars. I also enjoy the shortbread notes in the Upmann profile. I have Partagas and Hoyo, but don’t find myself reaching for them as much as the others. They have their time and place and are pairing dependent for me. Much of what I decide to smoke is dictated by what I’m drinking with it.

I had really bad luck with PLPC but they got their required five years and they flipped a switch. Every stick before that mark was a complete dud. Glad I went deep on them with the hopes they’d blossom which they did. As far as regular rotation, Canonazo and N2 have taken that role. With CC I have been rationing them. Used to be D4, BBF, BPC, P2, monte 4, HU2

My go to smoke at the moment is a D4, or a D6. Have you tried the H Upmann Majestic? Slightly less girth than the Petit Corona (40 RG) but a little longer and the price is not that bad. Also, the Upmann Half Corona and the Monte Media Corona are both worth a try. Shorter smokes but great when time is limited. I think the Monte is the stronger smoke of the two.

Well with the price hikes the last few years, my rotation has definitely changed. I've actually cut back on smoking quite a bit. When medium/large format current production sticks were $10-$15, I'd often smoke the core robustos (PSD4, RASS, Epicure No.2, ERDM CS, BRC, etc) as well as larger format like Lusitanias/BCG/RyJ Churchill. Now I'm mostly going for Party Shorts, Boli Petit Corona, Monte 3-5, and RASCC. Kinda sad, but I'm still sitting on quite a few boxes accumulated from 2014-2019....just smoke them more sparingly as $500+ a box for basic robusto just isn't worth it to me anymore.

I have a good variety to pick from, but the following tend to make it my rotation quite often.

Regular Production: PSD4, HUHC, Quinteros, Petit Quintero, HU Mag 50, HU Connie A, Siglo II (Before price increases. Now I spread them out)

Specials: LESF/DJ, Punch  Mantua, RACF, Monsdale custom rolls.

Past 12 months have been tons of HUHC, Epi2, Monte 2 and PSD4 - all recent productions. In very recent months, I’ve gone through an absolute heap of the Robusto Trinity.

The smoke I miss most is undoubtedly the SC El Principe - just can’t find anything to replace the little guy.
