I really like Jasim Ahmed who lives in UAE and does a lot of videos dressed stylishly and smoking cigars.  I believe he won an award this year from Habanos at the festival for his communication and role as an infuencer promoting and educating about Cuban Cigars.

Jasim won the Hombre Habano award in communication (popularly known as the "Habanos Man of the Year") in 2023.

Kirby was nominated this year but didn't win (the winner was Annie Lorenzo, Managing Editor of L'Amateur de Cigare magazine).

FWIW, none of these guys make their living influencing. Jasim runs a chain of LCDHs in the UAE. For Kirby, the videos are a loss leader for his clothing and accessories store and I think a good excuse for him to travel and have some interesting experiences. Alex Cigar Dandy does marketing and strategy consulting or something like that. Dave Dude works as flight crew. I don't know about Gizmo and his crew but I would be surprised if their podcast revenue covers much beyond the cigars they smoke.

All nice guys who I would be happy to have a smoke with anytime.

Well said, I knew much of this. It is very time consuming to edit & produce even simple videos for "smaller" guys like Dave Dude. And for "bigger" guys like Kirby & Jasim who get lots of views, I am also unsure if YouTube allows monetization anymore for tobacco related content or not.

No one does a video like AJ Patel. The last one I remember was the La Reina at EL, with cameo appearances by Simon Chase and others. Could have been the place, the moment, the cast but the dude emits a genuine energy/passion. Somebody post the video for everyone to remember. John

I think in some cases ..in other cases you get put under "limited ads"  classification ... the first blurb below is youtube's general policy, second blurb is youtube's interpretation of their dangerous behavior definition specific to tobacco   

Hate speech, predatory behavior, graphic violence, malicious attacks, and content that promotes harmful or dangerous behavior isn't allowed on YouTube.

Content that promotes tobacco and tobacco-related products is not suitable for advertising. This policy falls under Harmful or dangerous acts in the self-certification questionnaire in YouTube Studio, so be sure to check that one as well for detailed guidance.

 

I think this began when CO left ... I think there are still some exceptions but not sure. I was also wondering/I'll find out soon if exceptions are made in unboxing videos like mine, some of my reviews give historical context for each Marca & I don't smoke on camera ... I'll see.

Well you'll find out soon... I don't make content, I just know that many people who used to have stopped years ago because of that.

Even ChatGPT censors tobacco content so I'd be REALLY surprised if YT made some exceptions.

Actually, thank you & I agree with you 100%. I actually misread your first comment about this as a question not a statement and was just replying to "your question". 

Tobacco related content isn't monetized anymore on YT ? (Lol - sorry I haven't had my coffee yet.) Now I see you were just stating it...and yes, I agree. I have heard of some few random exceptions but overall I agree with you 100% and have not been expecting any ad revenue etc on my channel for example.

I'm curious about those exceptions you mention, it seems unlikely unless one's videos focus on the health benefits of quitting.

Yeah, believe or not I'm not too deep into YouTube policies & procedures myself. If I recall Dave or some others may of told me some of their videos are still monetized but that was a while back, we haven't discussed it recently.  My channel actually should be eligible for review sometime this year, I now have enough subscribers but I'll need a few more watch time hours within a given period (which I'm currently on track to exceed). Then I'll report back here once I'm rejected for monetization 🤣
