Recently, I had a cigar get together for friends and Sydney FoH members this weekend. To celebrate the Easter Long Weekend (in Australia, being a Commonwealth country, we enjoyed a four-day long weekend) and in the spirit of the holiday, I decided to offer guests one cigar from the following to sample that they may not have had the opportunity to have smoked in recent times. It also served as a useful guide for my 2024 Smoking Blog as I have smoked these cigars this year myself and it's always handy to hear someone else's opinion on a cigar one rates or otherwise.

From left to right:

I will let you know what was chosen and what was left in due time. Now, there's obviously no right or wrong answer but if you had the choice of one to try, which one would it be? Feel free to respond both within this thread and in the poll.

Tough one

Dip 2 gets 1st spot.

Presidentes would get my 2nd spot. Just love the blend despite being a lot younger that the other cigars

Hmm

If smoking there to try, really a toss up. Vitola preference would be the Coloniales but I’m not sure when those turned the corner to something spectacular. With that in mind, flipping a coin on San Juan and (really do not care for the No 2 vitola) a good Diplomaticos with age would be worth an attempt to change my mind. (Diplomáticos 2 won the flip, see you in a short flight, John)

For keeping to age later, the Presidente or Maduro 3. Those would be wasted on me now.

I'd go coloniales or PSD4 but regardless those are all great smokes! As Cigar Jesus people should be the ones bringing you cigars not the other way around! :P

Hope you had a great Easter, John!

As I know or got the others myself (neither one a bad choice, I particularly love 2015/16 Trini Coloniales and Reyes), I would basically like to take the opportunity to check in on two of them for getting a benchmark there: First, the Maduro No. 3, because I never had one so far and I didn’t care for the No. 1 (for me, a rather boring, uninspired Habanos offering). Would the No. 3 be able to change my mind? Second, the Presidentes for getting a first impression of current production.

Presidentes would get my vote, as there’s a higher likelihood of another disappointment with the Maduro.

The only cigar of the bunch, and I would not turn my nose up and a single one, that I haven’t tried is the Partagás Maduro No. 3. For no other reason it is my choice.

Imho the Maduro n3 is far better than the N1, a boring cigar indeed.

I've never experienced such a difference inside a same linea myself. I'm looking forward to hearing your opinion about this N3, to me it has great aging potential but we'll see about that in a few years. Mine are already good, but still young.

Diplo 2. I have yet to have one I didn't like. I wish there was more to this brand.

The touch of mold or what have you on the Hoyos makes them look interesting to me.

90% of me was all in on the diplos, but in the end I just love that Hoyo and I remember the 2015s that were on 24:24 in 2021 (if I recall). They were some of the best cigars I've ever had.

I've never had a maduro Cuban, so I had to go with the Partagás Maduro No. 3. Otherwise it would've been the Dip 2.

Stellar selection, and the D4/D2 were both tempting. I reckon the D4 would've been a 94 pointer. I think the Partagas Maduro would've been fun to try with a touch of age, however I would see this is as a rare occasion to learn something new and the Hoyo San Juan with 10 years on it would've been an experience, just to see what it can do and become. Hoyo San Juan it is.

I did have a wonderful Easter break, Alex. Thank you!

In regard to people bringing me cigars, well...trust me, I've had my fair share given to me over the years too.

The only one I have had is the PSD4 (2013) and it was fantastic. I'd probably grab a Dip 2 or Trinidad, but what a wonderful quandary to find oneself in!

Whichever’s easiest to cut down the middle and share with another person who enjoys thin ring cigars!

Generous offer though.🐷
