Candela in the wild? Have you...

I was listening to Lounge Lizards podcast and this was a question that came up. 

Have you ever seen a candela cigar being smoked in the wild? I mean, have you ever had a cigar with mates, or been smoking in a lounge.....and seen a Candela cigar being pulled out and smoked?

I remember seeing a few of those Alec Bradley Candelas, the "hooligan" or something being smoked in a local lounge. Once or twice. Never again.

Sure, a few weekends ago with friends and an old PL Fancy Tales of Smoke. Prior to that? Probably on the Twelfth of Never.

I recall seeing various candelas in 2000-2010's JR Cigars & Cigars International catalogs, but never in person.

The Illusione Holy Lance Candela is fantastic, have smoked through multiple boxes over the years and always have some on hand. The 888 Candela is also good. I'd stick to Illusione's candelas in general as I just think he knows how to properly blend with it.

They do have a odd/distinctive look to them.

A friend has a couple 50 cabs of PL Candelas in a double corona size. From around the revolution. Been trying to get her to auction them along with a dozen other boxes like Don Candido, etc...

Listened to that episode and genuinely had to do some internet research on what a candela cigar is. Not something I’ve ever seen in person.

I haven’t seen one smoked at a cigar lounge or any public setting.

Most B&Ms in my area don’t even stock them so their scarcity isn’t that surprising.

Interestingly, there was once a time when Candela cigars were the cigar of choice in the US market. Nowadays, they're a curiosity.

I recall as a child, my uncle smoked Candela cigars at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Loved the smell. He paired with Chivas Regal Scotch

This is the only version I can recall encountering.  I remember getting these in my Halloween bucket in the 60s.

They are popular for St. Patrick's day. Fuentes and Illusion. Not my thing though.

Probably a decade ago, I had an Illusione 88 Candela robusto. It was surprisingly good and a lot stronger than I was expecting.

  I've no experience but my friend was gifted one and he said it blew his head off and he spent that evening worshipping the porcelain throne.
