Thought your guys were on the run with that grand slam. And Betts got Profar back in style. Good luck amigo hope it’s a good game. 1
BigGuns Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 Likewise. I’m not terribly optimistic with us running a bullpen game and being as beat up as we are…vamos a ver… 1
JohnS Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 You put your heart on the sleeve following your team all year...all those 'ups and downs' for more than 150 games and it can all come down to one hit, one umpire's call, one play, one error. It's hard when your team then actually makes the postseason and they get eliminated in a close contest because you know in your heart that you've got the squad to go on and win the whole thing (i.e. the World Series). As a Mets fan, I still have to pinch myself that we've gone this far into October in 2024. I have to put it into perspective because it could be over sooner than one thinks. My heartfelt congratulations goes out to both the Brewers and Phillies because they played very, very well. Two quality teams that deserved their place in October. One thing that both my son and myself thought without telling each other - would Zack Wheeler been a better option, even on 3-days rest, for Game 4 as the best pitcher in baseball at the moment? Then possibly save Ranger Suarez for a elimination home game 5? Would that have been a better option? I suppose it's all hypothetical now. 2

You also run the risk of dipping into your bullpen early on short rest which could be catastrophic if the series went on. Phillies are still a great team but the bye team cold streak continues. I wonder if MLB will modify playoff structure? 1

Count me, John, as one of the many Phillies fans who believes that Zack Wheeler should have been our starter. It was a must win game, and Wheeler was virtually unhittable in game 1. With that said, the Mets pounded the Phils' relievers all series, and my club didn't hit in the clutch. The Mets on the other hand looked very strong. 1
Ford2112 Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 Padres better have it going on. It will take a lot to beat LA in a game 5. My team didn't pull it off in 2021 and as much flack as Roberts gets hes a good manager. God I hope the scrubs lose 😵💫 2

This year the Mets were rebuilding for 2025/26, no one expected this run. But having said this, it's been a lot of fun because if it all ends in the NLCS, the Mets can then say that they have players to build the team around to be competitive for next year and beyond.
JohnS Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 By the way, I haven't watched enough American League baseball this season to get a gauge on the teams like I can with the National League. I always figured, for example, that the Phillies, Dodgers, Padres and Mets were the best four teams in the National League by the end of the regular season. Is this the case also with the Yankees, Guardians, Royals and Tigers? I do know that the Tigers have had a (winning) 'run' in the second half of the season, after the All-Star Game and Trade Deadline, similarly to the Mets (whose 'run' began in June).

VeguerosMAN Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 Mets vs Yanks or Yanks vs Dodgers in the World Series would be epic. 1
Ford2112 Posted October 12, 2024 Posted October 12, 2024 That was intense. Looks like I am a giant Mets fan now! 2

Uh… I just heard a stat where it’s been 33 years since a team has gone hitless in this many (24 I think) innings during post season. To think they were at the top of the list in hits going into post season. Oh to be a San Diego fan of any team takes it’s toll 1

I will still admit, though - I was not confident until that final out. That lineup can be scary af. 1
Goldeneye Posted October 19, 2024 Posted October 19, 2024 Sadly the Blue Jays season was terribly disappointing, however late in the season a local kid got called up to Cleveland and that is a big deal for my hometown. We produce lots of professional hockey players but baseball players coming from Alberta to Majors is a rare thing. So go Cleveland! 1
JohnS Posted October 19, 2024 Posted October 19, 2024 If one looks at past results in Postseason series involving seven games, the likelihood of a Yankees-Dodgers World Series this year currently stands at 85%. Whilst I haven't written off the Guardians or Mets' chances, the Yankees and Dodgers certainly do have history. It's interesting that the Yankees-Guardians ALCS has had close games, whereas the Dodgers-Mets NLCS have all largely been blow-outs. This postseason has had some incredible games so far. I hope the run continues. 1

VeguerosMAN Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 The Yanks in 6 games is my prediction against the Dodgers. Soto, Judge, Stanton= too much power 1
KCCubano Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 LAD in 7. Ohtani hits walk off HR in bottom of ninth to break 5-5 tie for the win! 1
JohnS Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 As a Mets fan, I second radio announcer Howie rose's sentiment about this season in being every bit as exciting as the great postseason runs the Mets had in '69, '86, '99, '00' '06 etc. In the end, they fell short because they came up against a better team in the LA Dodgers (no shame in admitting that). The Mets led the league in comeback wins in 2024 (45 in total). As Gary Cohen said, "from oh-and-five to Oh-Em-Gee!", this team embodied spirit and it was a fun, fun ride. Can't get enough the following video that MLB put together!
JohnS Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 The Dodgers/Yankees rivalry is possibly the most famous on in all MLB postseason history. I mean, it seemed that every year they met in the postseason after World War II until Don Larsen's perfect game in the 1956 World Series. Then there was the 1977 and '78 back-to-back series and of course...what about 'Fernansomania' in 1981 (the last Dodgers-Yankees World series)? Sadly, Fernando Valenzuela passed this week. Yes, it's been 43 years since he set the baseball world alight with his pitching in 1981! Below are some articles reminiscing about those great series... https://www.mlb.com/news/dodgers-yankees-legends-discuss-classic-world-series-matchups https://www.mlb.com/news/mike-scioscia-remembers-the-late-fernando-valenzuela 1
Chibearsv Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 Yankees-Dodgers 12th time meeting for the World Series which ties the Lakers-Celtics NBA finals matchups. That's impressive. 1
