ayedfy Posted February 29, 2024 Posted February 29, 2024 Mystery robusto. Unsure of year but presume it to be young. Opening third: citrus acidity coming in hot - blood orange, even lemon zest. After the first hit it starts to round out; there’s a moment of worn leather, then a steady sourdough bread note that tempers the citrus without subsuming it entirely. Body is definitely on the light side. Draw is very easy with a hefty amount of smoke production. Middle third: “toasted tobacco” always feels like the biggest cop-out in a cigar review, but it’s not doing a whole lot else so I’m sticking to it. This is a Toasted Tobacco Third, leave your complaints in the comments. There is some leather that eases back in while the sourdough and citrus fall back. I worried it was burning too hot because of the draw so I slowed down, but no improvement in flavour when cooled. Final third: a bit of creaminess now I suppose? Low fat milk frothed to make a latte. No coffee though (a babycino?). More leather, toasted oak. That’s all she wrote. Now might be a good time to mention there’s a pleasant barnyard aroma coming off this which is probably the most enjoyable aspect of it. I wish I was sitting next to somebody else smoking this. I have fond memories going through a number of these particularly in my earliest cigar smoking days, but it’s been a long while since I’ve had anything from this marca. Don’t remember ever having anything bad from them, but I guess there’s a first time for everything. Inoffensive but way too boring. If I was charitable I’d give it leeway for being young, but I’ve had plenty of these young that were good and this isn’t known (to me at least) for being a cigar you need to wait on. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. 60/100 2
ayedfy Posted February 29, 2024 Author Posted February 29, 2024 Nobody guessed this one correctly - would you believe it was an HdM Epi 2! 1
MagicalBikeRide Posted February 29, 2024 Posted February 29, 2024 Sounded like a stinker. Hope any others you have smoke better. After a couple year hiatus, I’ve been enjoying them again in recent years.
