El Presidente Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 I was having a discussion with factory heads yesterday and I mentioned the release of Sora AI. I have to say I was a little taken aback by the nonchalant disregard as to how AI would affect anyone's jobs within the industry. Are they right? Off the top of my head I can see a several roles about to change/disappear......not that I mentioned it. Kick this one around. Within the premium cigar industry. In 5-10 years, what will be the likely impact of AI. 2
Cigar Surgeon Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 Well I think AI would be an advantage for marketing, packaging design, possibly naming, slogan, or press release gerneration. In terms of the cigar product itself; I don't think 'AI' in its current form would be particularly useful. But I love being proven wrong! 1

Agreed. Just in those areas alone, time (cost) saving is enormous. 1
jazzboypro Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 Companies will save a ton of money but depending on how many people are out of a job globally because of AI they might not have a lot of people to sell their products to. At what unemployment rate does it become a problem for a country's economy ? 1
SMELTZ Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 Could AI, in some capacity, blend, roll and package a cigar using robotics?

In terms of say packaging/design/promotion/marketing, you will always need great designers/implementers. However instead of a timeline of three months and a team of 10, you will need 3 weeks a team of 2. I have pulled the figures from my backside but I don't think I will be too far out. 1

I was mentioning today how the great Persian king Darius III chose to ignore the crossing of the Hellespont (i.e the Dardanelles or Strait of Gallipoli, the traditional divide between Europe and Asia) by a relative unknown from northern Greece named Alexander. We all know how that turned out in the annals of history. 2
jay8354 Posted February 22, 2024 Posted February 22, 2024 The technology for AI in terms of tastes descriptions and then blending as product is not yet there. However, once there is enough data for the AI to be trained (flavour nuances, what is a good combination of flavours, raw materials available), they will be able to slowly get the details needed to blend a decent product. This is not limited to tobacco, it could be wine, spirits, cooking. I mean people have use AI to make avatars to scam people in video meetings 1
