Chitmo Posted February 20 Posted February 20 Or maybe not. I don’t think this will have the same texture as a steak! The first thing that came to mind when I read this is, just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. Feels kinda like putting ketchup on pancakes to me but what do I know. 🤷♂️ https://www.sciencealert.com/scientists-invent-new-hybrid-food-by-growing-beef-inside-grains-of-rice 1
Pmo13 Posted February 20 Posted February 20 I love a good steak/burger and will continue to eat the real thing regardless. However, Impossible Beef is absolutely solid and gets a decent amount of use in my cooking. Makes a mean Pad Gra Prow. Full disclosure, I think I made this one with real beef. But the Impossible Beef is damn near identical in taste and texture. 3

"And the cost of hybrid rice to the consumer would be around 15 percent of the price of beef per kilogram" Plenty of upside to the tech in being a piece to the puzzle of solving nutrition/food scarcity. Let's hope they can work out how to do it at scale. . 1

I’m having a really hard time mentally getting around plant based foods, especially the hyper processed stuff. I don’t think the way we’re doing things works, but I also don’t think electric cars and man made food things is the answer either. The human race is scrambling around in a panic trying to unscrew what we’ve screwed and throwing ideas around like monkeys throwing shit at a wall to see what will stick. 3

JoeyBones777 Posted February 20 Posted February 20 We know so much because of science and yet we still know significantly less than we think we do. I'm of the belief we should be pouring resources into learning how to most efficiently do regenerative ranching and farming. We spend so much time, money and effort trying to out do nature instead of trying to come alongside nature to help it out do itself. Grass finished pastured beef is 85% more nutrient dense than conventional grain fed beef. Where does lab grown beef fall in??? 3

Where does lab grown beef fall in??? My understanding (deplorably limited) is that both grass fed beef and grain fed beef have different nutrient peaks and troughs. Each is higher (nutrients) in some compared to the other. The 85% depends on which you are counting. As for Lab grown, could it be adjusted at the point of production? I assume so .....but in reality have no idea.
Tunkat92 Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Cigars, wine, and beer is about as plant-based as I get. 2 2

I assume so .....but in reality have no idea. "Deplorably limited"...you and me both.🤣 That is my concern. It seems the more we learn the more we know that we don't know. It just seems to make the most sense to me to keep everything as close to nature as possible. We are meant to eat what nature provides us. Nutrition is extremely complex. We are told that blood sugar spikes are bad yet things like orange juice and watermelon juice, which spike blood sugar, have numerous studies showing incredible benefits, including, improving insulin sensitivity, counterintuitive to what we are told about blood sugar spikes. Ratios of certain nutrients, such as omega 3, 6 and 9, are important as well. Certain ratios cause more inflammation than others. This is where grass finished clearly outshines grain fed. How many times has the scientific community changed their minds on the healthfulness of eggs? I just think nutrition is too complex for us to fully understand and, therefore, we shouldn't mess with it. We now know that processed foods are killing us. The further away from a natural state we take our food the worse it is for us.🤷♂️ That seems to be the obvious trend yet we continue on the same path. 2

Agreed. I’m not the most healthy person in the world. I drink, I smoke and eat a metric ton of beef annually. However I don’t eat food that has an ingredient list on the packaging. I run 30-50km a week and regularly weight lift. I know several vegans that can’t touch their toes. I think finding a diet that makes you feel good, balance and moderation applied to the rest of your life and you’ll do okay. The secret of life isn’t mystical things to be solved, it’s a reality to be experienced and enjoyed. 1
