Scenario: At a party/event. Host-supplied cigars. There's a fully comprehensive range of vitolas (unbanded) on the table. Assuming the cigars are a top-shelf/quality breed of some sort or another, wrapper of your choice, and the "mark" we're talking about hitting is defined as being "consistently good to great, very few disappointments", which, if any, vitola are you reaching out for first? 🤔

When answering, cast aside things like the possible brand, smoke-time, age, etc... basically any other associated factors that might persuade or sway you to/from a certain size cigar generally - i.e. think overall past experience, not any governed preference.  :cigar:

Basically three ways to answer:

a) I'd go for a e.g. pyramide

b) wouldn't matter/couldn't pick a fave

c) first, tell me who the host is? :D

The 109. Just maybe a Edmundo Dantes Conde or a Diplo Bushido.

I'm not sure what the question is exactly...is this just an all else being equal what is your favorite vitola question?

Not necessarily your favourite, as that might be based on other factors, e.g. petit corona for smoke time, etc. Whereas there could be a larger format that you don't necessarily consider a favourite per se, but with the full gamut available to you you're going to reach for that vitola first.

Who is the host? Anyone but me!

I would reach for a corona first. I find it is just about the right size for me to enjoy, without starting to feel tiresome (like I do with a churchill) or left wanting more to start the evening.

Lonsdale - haven’t come across many that I don’t thoroughly enjoy

Whatever vitola matches a Dalias/Lonsdale/Coronas Grandes as they are all fairly similar in size.

Agreed, lonsdales and if not available, coronas gordas.

Robustos would be my first pick. Seldom fail in construction and don't take too long to smoke.

If it were a "one cigar" only event then a Gran Corona!  Gran Corona is and has been the celebration cigar for decades!

d) It depends on party/event vibe. e.g. at my wedding I went for a mix of petit coronas, lest my marriage not survive the evening. However, my generalized preference in vitola is corona gorda.

I’d reach for a corona gorda or a robusto if we’re going purely on vitola.  If I were hosting or providing for the event, I’d probably choose a box of either of those same 2 vitolas.  At a party with casual/non-smokers, those sizes will draw people as they’re not too big, and you won’t end up wasting half of the cigar that inevitably gets thrown away
