BG318 Posted February 7 Posted February 7 I'm looking for some suggestions for CC's I can smoke soon. I'm willing to buy those which can be smoked both young and old, but I want something for now. I have two humidors which are largely graveyards for assorted singles of CC's and NC's that I tried over the years and didn't love. I also have about 30 boxes of recently purchased CC's which I can only stare at for awhile. This includes 4 boxes of aged ( and premium priced) auction boxes. I just bought some nudies for which I have high hopes that they will satisfy on their own, and help bridge the gap in time until my CC's are ready. Id like to hear from you about which CC's you believe are smokeable young. Thanks!
MagicalBikeRide Posted February 7 Posted February 7 From 2021, almost all the CC’s I’ve bought have been smoking well after 90 days rest and box codes around six months prior. There have been some exceptions, but looking back, I’d estimate this at less than 10% of the boxes I’ve dipped into. From memory, the outliers for me were QD54, HU46 (I’m just not mad about the young profile for these) and a box of HU2. Anything else that I’ve opened during these years, I’ve gone back to very quickly. If asked to pick standouts. I’ve found it impossible to keep any HdM Epi2 and PR over this period - once I opened the boxes, I couldn’t stay away. Same with two recent boxes of Monte 2’s - they’ll never make it past two years. 1
MrBirdman Posted February 7 Posted February 7 In line with above, the question these days is which CC do require a lot of aging. None are truly unsmokeable young, but there are a handful which most prefer with at least 3-4 years (e.g. PLPC). Even with those though you will find many who enjoy them fresh, and some both ways. If you’re looking for the cigars that smoke best when they’re younger, my own opinion is that it’s hard to beat good ‘ol Monte 4. Good box with 90 days down is easily enjoyed at the one year mark, if you like strong flavor. 3 1
BG318 Posted February 7 Author Posted February 7 Great to hear that I can start puffing away at most of these! Most of the ones mentioned are in my collection. I'll hold back on the Qd's for a couple of years.. I appreciate the insight 1
MagicalBikeRide Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Oddly, I ran through a 10 count box of QD50 in no time earlier this year - only had youth with the 54’s.

Uwiik Posted May 1 Posted May 1 RASS, Monte Petit Edmundo, Monte Wide Edmundo, HDM PR, Trini Reyes, and HDM Epi 2 are in my regular rotation; all with less than 15 months old box code. Out of all the marcas listed, RASS has been the best one smoked young (zero mongrel) and mine is only 11 months old from box code. The most important thing is to finish with mandatory 3 months rest period at your preferred temp and RH, none of the above smoked well before a 3 month settling down period.
BrightonCorgi Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Anything in a tubo or cardboard box would be a candidate. You may enjoy that "fresh and punchy" cigar. There's something to be said about cigars at many phases of the journey. 2
BlueWS Posted May 4 Posted May 4 I started obtaining Cuban Cigars for the first time in Oct 23. I've smoked 20 different ones so far. Here's my list for cigars that smoke well young or not. At six months of age: JL2, Connie 2s, HUHC, Vegueros Centrofinos, Monte Petit Edmundos, & Party Shorts were all good. JL2s get my top vote for smoking well young. Bland and boring at 6 months+: Epi2s, Hoyo Petit Robustos, QD 50s, PLPCs, RJ Short Churchills (the worst). My okay not great 6 months to 1yr list: Punch 48s, H Up Royal Robustos, RASS It's finally been a year and QD50s came around, PLPCs came around and I'm revisiting the rest slowly. Trini Reyes at 1yr were already great in my opinion. 1
EasternPromises Posted May 5 Posted May 5 I would second / third on the QDO54. I just smoked a stick from a 2021 box and it was arguably the harshest stick I’ve smoked in the last 12 months.
5thStarChicago Posted May 6 Posted May 6 R&J Cazadores...you'll have to dry box them a little but I think they are brilliant for a full flavor cigar when young. They mellow / soften with age and change but I think they really shine and stand out when young. 1

It's a wonderful change of pace. Plan on it being your last cigar of the day. 1
SUP8333 Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Monte4, QD50, HDMe2, RASS+ all nudies. I've been rotating through these after a week of rest and they are pretty good! If you like to smoke them young make sure to get one of those hygrometers so you can check if they are not too wet/dry. To throw in some rewards for better days, I've bought some 3-4 year old boxes of other stuff and smoke them after a week too.
