Cigarsmoker81 Posted January 26 Posted January 26 I would suggest after burning 100 or so sticks of various cigars to try to obtain a single of Trinidad and try for yourself. It’s a wonderful cigar that you should try at least once. Your life will be fine never trying it and you may never even like it but if it was me I would like to at least try it once for myself. I would go for longer smoke (Vigia or media Luna or larger ) so you can smoke it on your b'day or a special occasion.) 3

joeypots Posted January 26 Posted January 26 If I was going to buy Trinidad I’d probably opt for Cohiba. The Trinidad marca has never done it for me, but that just me and I haven’t smoked a lot of them. A box of undefiled Robusto T turned me off of the whole line. I think the marca has always been too dear in comparison to other Cuban lines. 2

Nocoins Posted January 27 Posted January 27 The current pricing has firmed up my take on Trinidad. It goes like this: I enjoy the Reyes, but I prefer the Du Depute, the RASCC, and El Principe I enjoy the Fundadores, but I prefer the Coloniales, I enjoy the Coloniales, but I prefer the Siglo II, the Monte 3, and the Carlota. Taking the stupid prices into account, that’s why I haven’t bought Trinidad in a few years and don’t really consider it. If the Trinidads named above were priced comparably to say, Bolivar or Robaina, I might. So, OP, I like the suggestion above — smoke a bunch of cigars, then a few Trinidads, and see where you think they fit in among those you really like. 3
BoliDan Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Buy nothing but Partagas D4 is my strategy. Don't copy please. Damn.... I suck at buying cigars! 2 1

NSXCIGAR Posted January 27 Posted January 27 The only Trini that's been difficult to replace in my rotation is the Reyes. Yes, I love the RASCC & El Principe but there's something special about the Reyes. A cigar I could smoke every day at any time of day. Perfect size and very consistent. 3

SigmundChurchill Posted January 28 Posted January 28 I loved the Fundadores for around the first 10 years after it was made available to the public, but now it isn't anywhere near the cigar that it was back then. Some of the best cigars I have ever smoked were the Trinidad Double Robustos (I think that's what they were called), but they were very limited to the farmhouse humidor. The Robusto T was fine, but I really liked the Robusto Extras A LOT. They were my second favorite production cigar, right after the Silo VI. I was heartbroken when they were discontinued. I was never a huge fan of the Reyes or Coloniales. I liked them well enough, just not enough to buy more than a box here and a box there. When the three new sizes came out, I really liked the Esmeraldas and to a little lesser extent, the Media Lunas. I bought around 30 boxes of each, but they were very reasonably priced back then. Esmeraldas I bought ranged from 180-250 and Media Lunas from 140-180. I wish I went through them more slowly as I am down to only a few boxes of each. Never liked the Topes. The Topes EL was good, but it didn't translate well to a regular production cigar. Burned too hot for the blend, I think. 3
RDB Posted January 28 Posted January 28 It’s a funny marca. Can be wonderful, can be a bit underwhelming, mostly just very calm and nice smokes. The old robusto extra was amazing. Fundy is for me still one of the greats, but practically non-existent now. I had one box of the massive La Trova, which are nice if a little bland. Reyes, Coloniales and ML were a sort of ‘mini luxury’ for a while and not too expensive. But now they are a mad price. *UPDATE* Inspired by this thread I smoked a Reyes at lunchtime today, from MUP MAY 2019. Great construction and burn, good strong flavour with more mongrel than is usual for Trini. Would be a great option at USD10 or below… 2

Yeah I hear you. I am unfortunately one of the guys that recently got into cigars. I was enjoy NC’s. Then I made the mistake of buying a couple Cubans. My first purchase was a 3 pack of Siglo 2’s and a 3 pack of upmann magnum 50. Needless to say I was hooked on Cubans after trying those two brands. Now I don’t want to smoke many NC’s other than some padrons. I like the Padron 1000’s series. 1

English_Staffy Posted February 14 Posted February 14 It is sad what they’ve done. I really enjoy the Coloniales and Fundadores but for the current price point I will always choose more of other brands. Just my opinion.

Yeah I thought about trying the shorts out. I enjoy shorts for quick little smokes or if I am working and want to take a break or something. 8 hours ago, English_Staffy said: It is sad what they’ve done. If I wasn’t in the states I could see myself buying a single here and there to maybe spoil myself a bit, but I don’t have that Luxury to walk down to an LCDH and get whatever.
