I like Monte 4s but don’t seem to stock them these days deferring instead to other PCs.

The best Monte 4 are young. 6 months. And that is just me. I have had some amazing savoury sweetness, cocoa coffee Monte 4. PSP memories from a while back . They were just simply delicious and I would power through a box. Again and just me 12 months is bang on for Monte 2 especially. The same goes for Petit Edmundo, tubos, No 3 etc. I have No 1 Especial as far back as 1996 and wish I had smoked them years ago. Mind you they are still very good. John S gave me one in May of this year at Rob And Di's wedding....young and delicious smoke! Thank you John. My standpoint on Montecristo is do not hold them for years, especially EL or GR. On the lighter end of price point I would recommend the Petit Edmundo always honest and very consistent.

There are cheaper Montes? :rotfl:

I'd pick the 4 over the 3. I've always had better luck with the 4 over both the 3 and 1, although I'm taking the 5 over all of them.

I tend to agree. Although I have had excellent examples of 1s, 3s and 4s I find 5s to be more consistent.

Forgot about 5. Por little buggers. Good luck trying to find a box. And if it has 5 plus on it years that is, walk away...spend your $ elsewhere.

I don't mind the 3 and prefer it to the 4, but the only Montes I love are the Especial and No 2. And there are no cheap prices there anymore, unfortunately.

Less expensive? I see you are new. 🤣 I like them all. 1, 2, 3, 4, and the DE are all good. I don’t seem to pick up PC’s often, I’d go for the #3.

The ones with spots on the wrappers (haven't seen as prevalent in newer boxes) had better flavor.

I am half way through my 2nd box of Media Corona. FEB 23 and they are pure Monte flavor in a 1/2 hour format. I’ll get these again.😀

I’m a big Monte fan. Enjoy No1, No2, No3, No4, Esp1 and 2, all the Eddie line and the half corona. As others have pointed out, I don’t think any are cheap 😅

Nowadays I would buy a 10 CT box of Monte 2 and be done with it. Too pricey these days unfortunately.

The truth of the matter is there is no cheap value option in the Monte line apart from maybe the Media Corona and even that is a stretch. Value does exist though...Montecristo Especial still have relatively low off the shelve and vintage prices for what they are. For example, a 2005 box of Cohiba Lancero might cost you £2700 whereas a 2005 box of Montecristo Especial might be £800. That's bonkers when you think about it.

In conclusion the value of Monte lies in it's top end, not it's bottom.

I can’t say any Monte is cheap, but I love No. 5. Delivers great flavors and one of my favorite coffee cigars.

Yeah man I am super new. I been smoking cigars for about 6 months and just been into Cuban cigars for the last 2. I am trying to figure the ins and outs of this deal.

Yeah I am kinda new to this. I was kinda considering the Maltes, Edmundo, and the no 2 the higher end. That may not even be right lol. Like I said I am new.

I hear ya, I am pretty new to this game. I am trying to get it figured out. I want to buy them all, but I may end up divorced doing that. Lol

That helps out quite a bit. I am just wanting to get some Montecristo and am kinda trying to figure out exactly what I should hunt down. What would be nice is to find a few boxes of 3ct for sale.

The only way to find out what you like is to try some sticks. One thing you can do, and I'd recommend this, is to obtain some singles or pick up a partial box on 24:24. Trades as well. Enjoy the journey.

Yeah I love that they will sale partial boxes here on 24x24. It makes it easier to try a few different ones without committing to an entire box. My favorite so far is the H.Upmann Mag 50.

This is EXACTLY the response I had in my brain. Like: verbatim.

It’s a great question.  I guess, if pressed, I’d say a Monte 4.  But my first thought was: “so weird, a Monte 4 is 2x the cost it was 3 years ago and a Monte Especial No. 2 appears to only be up 33%.”  Granted the Esp2 takes,  like, 10 years to be great but still.  Might be the best “value” based on prices before the spike.

In your thread title I read the not their. My apologies. It’s a shame that you have come to Cuban cigars just after the absurd price increases. MC#4 have doubled in price in the last few years and that’s about par with non elite marcas.

Yeah I have heard about how much they used to cost and it was so much cheaper. I love the taste of Cubans and with them being so expensive I gotta be like ultra picky which ones I try out just in case I don’t like them. The up side is if I don’t like them it seems like I can let them sit for a year or two and maybe they will get better. I feel like as long as I stick to the main brands and talk to people I will be good with the selections I choose. I just ordered my first Quai d'Orsay 50 box, so I am excited for these to be in my humidor.
