Greenhorn2 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Oh yeah. There's still one operating about 20 minutes from where I live. I haven't been there in years, though.

Lots of drive-in's in the 80s and some held on until the early 90s when I was dating and had my own car. I kind of miss it. Happy birthday mate! Thank you for everything you do 👍 1

We still have the Skyline Drive-In Theatre in Blacktown. It is the last permanent drive-in left standing in Sydney. When we first moved to our place in Bella Vista, I remember you could actually see the screen from my study window, albeit it was just a tiny flickering dot in the distance. As for those Terence Hill and Bud Spencer films @El Presidente, I was watching "They Call Me Trinity" the other night. Love the films they did together, I think there were about 20. How did you actually see the screen . 🚗 Front or back 🤔
Wfriar Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Have one in my home town. Kids love going in the summer time.
JohnnyO Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Went to the drive-in in the late 60's in Venezuela to watch all the Cantinflas and Bond movies. Goldfinger was my favorite. Saw movies in the US as well with family and girlfriends in the 70's-80's. There is a 14 screen drive-in in Ft Lauderdale that acts as a Flea Market during the day (Thunderbird Swap Shop). No speakers, you tune in your radio to the FM station posted below the screen. It's best to go there December-March. There is smaller 3 screen drive-in/flea market owned by the same family in West Palm Beach. Both are in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods and there is definitely a third world flavor about them. John
joeypots Posted January 22 Posted January 22 One of the few remaining drive in movie theaters is 3 miles from my house. I haven’t been for a long while but the place is popular in summer. People back in their pick ups and set up seats in the bed. There is a bit of lawn in front of the screen, we used to sneak in and watch from there, many, many years ago. It wasn’t good visibility but we weren’t smoking cigars. The place is going strong with double features every summer night. Sooner than later I suspect it’ll be gone, the land is valuable. So, did you hear about the ---- (insert any creed, color or ethnicity you want to bust on in good fun) ----couple that froze to death at the drive in? . . . . . . . . Wait for it . . . . . . . They went to see Closed For The Winter. 3

My mum (86 now) and dad (90 now) religiously took us to the drive in. Mum would fry up chicken and off we would go to Keperra or Aspley which were our closest. We would buy Cornetto icecreams and hot chips at the drive-in and watch the 2 movies on show. I must have been 6-7 years of age at my first. My dad was a huge lover of the Bud Spencer and Terence Hill Italian genre...and it seems in retrospect that every three weeks (at least) we would treck out in the Holden Kingswood V8 to the drive-in for a night out. I loved it Turned into teens and I inherited that Kingswood as my first car (disaster but another story). I could pile two mates from the rugby team in the boot, three in the back and a passenger ....and off we would go. Once at the Drive-in, the boot would open, two would jump out and watch the movies from the kiosk. We could bring our own beers/rum. Dusk to dawn. Cheap dating. Who else misses the 80's? I can't recall when it stopped? I am quite sure that my kids (maybe Ben made one or two?) have never been. There are none left in our city today (to my knowledge). Would it be fair to say that you are growing old if you have been to a Drive-in? Favourite movies at a Drive in? Great times been to the drive-n? come back when you've had one named after you. https://cinematreasures.org/photos/429404 i remember seeing Hatari at the drive-in when very young. blew me away. the family went regularly. loved it. later when students, there may have been some crowding numbers into the boot. the last time i remember going was with friends and my sisters, i think. to see star wars. i had seen it a few days earlier and was just in awe of it. remember, we'd never seen a movie like that. this night, it bucketed down. windscreen wiper was useless. so i stuck my head out of the window for two hours to watch in the rain, while everyone else bitched endlessly. 1
