EAR: Email Assistance Required.

This email came in on Monday but I am just catching up after a few weeks away.

I know the RG CDL are up today on 2424 but i would prefer you good folk to give a broad range of opinion, good, bad or indifferent.

Gracias :ok:

" .....anyway like others, my CC budget has been hit hard. Oce cigar I have been looking at is the Rafael Gonzales Corona Lonsdale. Is it really a RG  DNA cigar? I always liked the Corona Extra until it was taken away. I am a fan of the perla and panetela as well. Do you think this would be up my alley? Any other suggestions along the same pricepoint? "

So far for me a little spotty with both construction and quality but most are decent and at the price I'd say a fair deal. I think they could have put a bit more effort into them and charged a buck or two more. Is it on par with the Connie 1 or Famosos? No. RG deserves a bit better.

If they'd have just scaled up the Perlas blend they'd have had a winner.

I had one from a SUL FEB 23 box on Christmas day. The first two thirds were wheat bread and herbal tea with some cedar mixing in the final third. No issues with construction, draw and burn were perfect. You could definitely tell it was young but it smoked just fine.

Surprisingly mild. Probably the best looking and constructed RG format I have come across. Wheat bread, herbal tea and ceder notes is a precise description from Grimlock. In regard to price point....a bit of a bargain really, especially in Australia .

Mild along the lines of a Choix Supreme? I would like to try these, but if they don't have the Gonzalez DNA flavors, then maybe not.

Ok the last year or so I have found the Choix Supreme to have a little more body to them than usual. I have found them to be great. I would say this RG is on par with Choix Supreme from previous years. If you do prefer a fuller bodied smoke I would go elsewhere especially in robusto format. Keep in mind my sample size is over 3 boxes so its very small. What I did find however was construction body and flavour over 26 sticks to be consistent. This is a cheaper, more practical cigar that I will take to work. Not something I would have at home.

I have boxes of RG petit coronas and love them. Maybe I'll place a thread in trading room to see if I can score a couple before buying a box.

I'm a perlas fan. I've been waiting to hear on these before commiting.

I think they're definitely stronger than the PC but maybe a bit behind the Perlas. Actually kind of reminds me of the Panetelas. Certainly has RG DNA to me. I would not say it's as mild as a CS.

I've always liked the Perlas but I don't like these that much. Then again, I don't like the PC much either. If you're an RG fan I think they're definitely worth sampling but have low expectations.

If it can help a little, I've only had three from a SUL ENE 23' box. Both were on the mild side, very good cigar with excellent construction and burn. But imo, not really on the usual RG profile. Those were more on the creamy notes, I didn't find any earthy/ herbal/floral notes and just very little ones of spice and wood. On the other side, my SUL MAR 22 RG PC was not ready to smoke at all, way too strong. The opposite of the RG CdL, wich are surprisingly good and ready for such young cigars. I would say a good QPR, but I'm a fan of hermosos n°4.

EBP NOV 23. It sucks, one of the worst. Tight draw, uneven burn/fireproof wrapper, taste is quite bland. 8 more sticks to go ($375 down the drain).
