I always thought of it more as an archtop wood but I’ve been loving my recent Murphy Lab maple SJ200. Warm, crisp and loud, I’m a maple lover now! These Murphy Lab guitars are aged (finish checked, fretboard edges rolled etc) which is a whole other debate but I am very happy with it. Sounds like an old Gibson with the torrified top and I’m convinced the thin, cracked finish contributes to a looser, more vintage tone. The vintage tone wasn’t vintage when we played it. 🤔 1

I only just recently found about them... they look pretty amazing as a portable little coffee table/desktop practice unit with the app, tone library, etc... Interested to know other's thoughts/experiences. I haven't used the spark specifically but for those times when my family wants me silenced I bought the Boss Waza Air Headphones. They are an "amp" with multi effects, different amp models...pretty slick. Most importantly they sound great...especially for headphones. The app that controls it is a little quirky and could be improved but once you dial in and save your sounds it is very useful as a practice tool. I have heard good things about the Spark and they usually have serious discounts on their units around Black Friday and Cyber Monday. If you pick one up please report back on your findings. MB
Popular Post loose_axle Posted January 19 Popular Post Posted January 19 I played a lot in my teenage years and 20's. Played a lot of 90's alternative for a while, then was bass guitarist in a 60, 70s & 80s cover band. Ended up doing a lot of blues and jazz stuff close to 30. The band I was in mates...got married, moved away. I went back to guitar and it became a lot of jazz fusion and prog metal. Was playing an 8 string there. Over the years I've owned a Squier P Bass, Fender American Jazz Bass, Fender Telecaster (Mexican), Fender Stratocaster (Japan), Ibanez RG (Japan) and Ibanez Tosin Abasi signature. Knocked around with different Fender, Roland and Orange amps and different effects pedals. Have a Tanglewood acoustic but wasn't a huge fan of playing acoustic guitar. I've the Ibanez Rg, the Strat, the Jazz bass and one or two amps left now. Almost never play as works long hours but do love it when I do getting around to picking it up. Can't play 3/4 of what I use to though, just all runs out like the sands of time. 5
MoeFOH Posted March 6 Author Posted March 6 These are not new by any means, but first I'm seeing of them with this limited edition... very cool! Have never played a Furch guitar but apparently they have a pretty good rep. 1

MoeFOH Posted April 17 Author Posted April 17 These guys do some good showcase vids... great in highlighting boutique builders. 1
BlueWS Posted April 17 Posted April 17 I don't get crappy low volume practice amps. I get playing quietly, so headphones for electric guitar. Headphones into a digital effects unit. I have a HX Stomp XL. Me personally, I just wait for my wife to go to the gym then I crank my stereo and crank my amp and play along to .mp3s until my left ear goes numb 🙉 It's loud but not damaging loud. 😁 1
MoeFOH Posted May 27 Author Posted May 27 Quite a few boutique builders out there that are more than worthy of attention, but these guys really strike me as doing something special. With electrics often owing so much to their set-up (electronics, effects, amps, whatnot) these seem to have a very signature standalone sound. Pretty impressive. Great story behind the company, too.
