I'm not usually a white wine fan. But I find the EX4 quite a delicate subtle cigar. And the Torrontes has got a lovely floral rose edge to it

Just so we are on the same page

Wolfberger is supplying good quality wine. The Cremant is great as well.
Have you ever tried Icewine (Eiswein) also Spätlese Riesling goes well with cigars?
I am not so in with sweet wine but my landlord dragged me into. And he is owning an wineyard 😂😂😂
Rheingau wines are really good with cigars.
Nahe wines are hard to get, but worthy. They are a touch mineral than other Riesling.

It is hot and humid here in Patong/Pucket. I am loving our serviced apartment hotel no less because it has a bottle shop downstairs and I have been indulging in white wines over the past few days. The shop doesn't have a huge collection of wines but I picked up a bottle of Wolfberger Gewurtztraminer on arrival. I have always loved a good Gewurtz, but it has been an infrequent choice.

Holy moly, in a hot and humid environ, it has paired beautifully with my cigars. I think I have found my new wine cigar pairing and will host a Gewurtztraminer afternoon on the deck upon my return.

....am I alone in this? :lookaround:

Got a fridge full of German Rieslings, never occurred to me to try any with cigars. Thank you both for the heads up.

Not a whole fridge. Maybe 4-5 cases for me and never occurred either! They're my least drank wines in the cellar, but keep buying them when there's a deal.

Basically some sweetness and relatively high acidity is the magic combination with smoke. Off-dry German Riesling is to my taste pretty much perfect. Try a Mosel/Saar/Ruwer bottling at Kabinet or Spätlese sweetness, or about 8-10% alcohol leaving the rest of the sugar in the wine…heaven.

I could actually see dry, high acid Rieslings like Falkensteins Kabinets being super refreshing and palate cleansing.   Still would never mix the two.....

Rarely pairing my Rieslings with a cigar, neither stile. But agree, some do hold up pretty well against a smoke, in particular some basic (solid) quality Gutswein- and Kabinett-level with more residual sugar / less alcohol lend themselves to pairing with a cigar. Higher-growth “hock”, may it be sweet or dry, and cigar means wasting good wine. Plus, Riesling can be a tricky pairing due to it’s usually crisp acidity. One has to be selective. Personally, I do prefer less acidity in a beverage that is to accompany my smoke (says one who’s not pairing his smokes with orange juice either 😂). So, for me likewise, the in comparison low-acidity Gewurz with it’s pronounced, sometimes hearty floral spiciness would be a better choice indeed. And the basic Wolfberger is not wasted on a cigar either (look out e.g. for Zind Humbrecht if you’re in the mood for something truly special in the Gewurz realm...).

Yep Argentinian Torrontes. I think that particular bottle looks to be around the £10 mark. Which would make it quite cheap and probably on the entry level side of town

Maybe worth having a look at this list...

Very well 😁

I look forward to exploring the line further.

Research of course :lookaround:

I enjoyed sauternes with a cigar on occasion and as they can be exxy. I found the De Bortoli Deen Vat 5 is a really good price worthy alternative. Usually around $13 at Dans.

Glad it didn't totally bomb.  I can see the QDO going well with the floral notes Torrontes is typically supposed to have.

Love your dedication to the 'research'

As a general rule I can see Sauternes maybe being a bit too cloying with a cigar, but I can see it working with some older Hoyos. i.e. Du Gourmet, and Des Dieux

Agreed.

Too bad actually. I'd like to drink more Sauternes. I have enough half bottles; drinking 1 or 2 a year. A whole bottle of Sauternes; the last one I opened was like 15+ years ago.

Sauternes at auction is currently a give away. Great time to bid on back vintages of Château d'Yquem.

I find I only really drink them with cheeseboards. They go really nicely with sour/citrusy goats cheeses or Wensleydales etc
