Popular Post Tradesman Posted January 1 Popular Post Posted January 1 One of my favourite afternoon smokes alongside the QDCC/QD50/JLS1/JLS2. On the light: Instant wood bomb. Don't have much of the caramel or floral profile yet. But tons of wood right off the get go. Room note is intoxicating. If you love a woody cigar a young PLPC will be right up your alley. First third: Still retaining the spine of wood. But it's developing now. Getting some floral sweetness and some nuts on the palate. There is also red pepper on the back of the tongue. I think this adds a lot of complexity to the cigar. Instead of just being sweet and woody, you have a lingering red pepper at the back of your throat that lasts quite long. On the retrohale, it's all floral, slight sweetness and no bite. The room note is now full on woody and sweet. If someone developed a perfume using this scent I'd happily spray it on everywhere I went. Second third: Retro is now in full swing. Very floral, sweet, and no bite. I'm retrohaling this a lot. Which is a good sign. On the palate, more sweetness now. I wouldn't call it a caramel sweetness. But definitely a short burst of sweetness paired with wood. I suspect the caramel notes will develop with more age. But I'm happy with the profile as it is. On some puffs, there is a bit of an acidic note. Not sharp acid. Kind of like sweet orange juice acid. Balanced but sour in a good way. On the finish, the red pepper is most definitely still there. Starting to get a little bit of a dry finish. And the room note is just so, so nice. If you love woody scents, you'll love this. Almost identical to the room note of the Juan Lopez Seleccion No.1. In case you needed a reference. Final third: Still retrohaling once every two puffs. It's just so pleasant. Notes remain from the second third, just slightly more amped up. Getting the tiniest bit of bite now. Not enough to stop me from retrohaling this cigar down to the nub. On the palate, definitely getting hints of caramel now. The caramel note doesn't linger. But it's there. Pepper is still there, but toned down. Flavours are melding together now. Not as acute as before where I could distinctly pick out flavours one by one. It's more of a singular profile of sweet floral wood now. Wish I had other words to describe the flavour but that's all I got lads. Room note is as pleasant as before. Diverging away from the JLS1 now with more sweetness to pair with the wood. Strength from start to finish is light. Body is light-medium at the start, medium at the end. Rating: 92 As it's still young, it's very "mongrel" as our Presidente likes to say. Acute flavors. Some harshness on the finish starting from halfway. But nothing time won't mellow out. As it stands right now, it's a great cigar I'd recommend to any level of smoker. Complex, but retaining a simple core of flavours. Definitely one of those cigars you want to have aging away in your humidor because it's only going to get better with time. 8
