Popular Post TacoSauce Posted December 19, 2023 Popular Post Posted December 19, 2023 This is the third tasting from my bundle. MOFOH Spada Gorda (+): The first one I had was no bueno. It was insanely sour and overwhelming with the predominate taste of lemon juice. The second one I had seemed like a completely different cigar. It was smooth, musty, and fit for a king. Now on to the third one. The pre-light aroma and cold draw gave hints of the same sour Virginia pipe tobacco that I noticed with the first one, but was completely absent with the second. It wasn't quite as strong with this stick. After lighting, the body is medium and a sourness is immediately noticeable. This time the sourness isn't as strong as with the first stick. instead of presenting as lemon juice, this time it presents as orange juice, but without the sweetness. The first two thirds are just in-your-face tangy orange juice with the occasional note of croissant and coffee. The very tangy orange juice profile isn't bad (unlike the lemon juice from the first stick), but it is still too sour to reach the level of "good". Only in the final third did the croissant and coffee flavors stick around long enough to start to meld with the orange juice flavor. The final third was much nicer in that the combined flavors were reminiscent of an orange-flavored dessert or maybe JL#2 on tangy steroids. I did smoke it to the end and the final third was interesting so this gets a "+" rating. 6 1
rondogg Posted December 26, 2023 Posted December 26, 2023 Why do you think it tastes sour? It's a first time I've heard a cigar being "sour"
TacoSauce Posted December 28, 2023 Author Posted December 28, 2023 I don’t think a sour flavor is that uncommon in cigars. I would say that young Montes can often have a sour note. However, it isn’t strong and it melds with the other flavors so you don’t experience it as outright “sourness”. You might just say that there is a slight tang or tanginess. 2 of 3 spadas have had that same flavor, but dialed up to 11.
