EAR: Why are cigar oldtimers always grumpy?

What gets me going is when someone smokes literally 1 or 2 of a certain cigar total, and tries to speak with knowledge about that cigar and starts to opine one way or another in general about said cigar, as if an authority. It takes multiple boxes and different box codes to truly understand a cigar. I see this a lot, and certainly tons of times over the past 20 years I’ve been around cigar boards, and I think it’s really unfair to new smokers.

This is probably the reason why older cigar smokers appear less tolerant to younger ones. They've heard every new kid walk into the shop talking about "fake" this, or "authentic boxes of sublimes/Solomons in boxes of 25" and they just don't have the patience for it anymore. Hell, I'm in my mid 30s and it gets to me. 

There's a grumpy old man at my lounge who thinks all my stuff from FOH is fake though. Idk about him.

Older cigar smokers should remember that they once were young cigar smokers asking the same questions.

I think people sometimes think current forums are harsh to new members but they haven't been through the experience of what cigar forums used to be.

Ask a question that's in the FAQ or commonly asked? You'd find yourself on the receiving end of a temporary or permanent ban.

I'm not saying that was particularly welcome, but I've noticed on Reddit the past few years that people are using forums as Quora to get answers, instead of using the plethora of tools and information that's been posted already to educate themselves.  While I understand some people are just trying to start a conversation, I'm not sure I can take another question about 'green splotches' on a wrapper or asking if cellophane should be left on or what the bumps are on a cigar wrapper 😅

But I always try to be as welcoming as possible as we were all newbies at some point, even Ken.

Was anyone here on the CA cigar forums before it was shut down? There used to be some "saltiness" on those forums from time to time.

I wonder if mobile phone is the most used method to reach this site. 

Let's face it, this place has a higher average age than many nooks and crannies around the internet. 

When we had a poll on my local CFL board (lol, I know) more than 50% of users are still accessing the site from a laptop or physical PC. Now I bet the average age of the CFL fan is even higher than this place, but I wouldn't be suprised if mobile phone isn't the most common way to access FOH.

I never use my phone to access this forum or any other forum for that matter.

This, above all, is the one thing that I have learned the most-est. I'm not sure it can truly be learnt unless you actually spend the time/money doing it. It's the one variable that requires actual experience (uhhh cause you gotta smoke em to know em bro) and, once it is learned, it can really open your eyes and show you a better way to understand and appreciate things like cigars and wine. 

Also, I'll have you know, good sir/madam, I have been grumpy and insufferable from the point of conception. I friggin taught Statler and Waldorf how to enjoy the opera by opening their hearts to the glory that can be found in the plight of others. In utero, I gave my lovely mother morning sickness 26 hrs a day from the rank bile that I produced from my grump glands. And I refuse to let you pigeon hole me as ever having been some kind of pilgrim. I hate hats with buckles on them!

What do you mean you don't take the phone in there? Do you have a wall mounted cell phone in your bathroom? That would be BALLER! Help me understand.  So, does your wife stand at the bathroom door with your phone while you sit on the throne and tell her what websites you want to read? Do you dictate what she needs to text to your friends? Isn't it hard to read your phone while your wife holds it in the bathroom doorway? Or does she read it out load to you? How do you poop if there's not someone home to be your poop proxy phone user?
