Popular Post GVan
Unfortunately, no pictures with this post. I brought 2 MOFOH Spada Gorda's to my daughter's house to try over Thanksgiving holiday. I have to admit that a Florida boy sitting around the fire -pit at sub-50 degrees was cold enough that my iPhone was buried under 3 layers of warm clothing - I thought about taking pictures and then went - Na! I also brought a Mareva IV and two Amante IV's to share and try around the fire. These Spada Gordas just hit 64 days since hitting my humidor and surprisingly I waited on these and did not try one ROTT. Cigar was firm, smells of sweet tobacco, a lovely Colorado brown wrapper and I really like the pigtail. I much prefer the open foot rather than the closed foot of the Amante IV but that's just personal preference. I v-cut and the cold draw flavor is very much like the Mareva IV - just much more of everything! A stronger leather smell and flavor dominates. I remember that the tasting panel asked for a small change to the original MOFOH blend and I applaud their choices and palates. My best comparison of the flavors of the Cold Draw is Bolivar PC meets AJ Fernandez New World Dorado. I thought I'd read that the Spada Gorda has some Honduran components which is probably where I get the AJF flavor comparison. Enough of admiring the cigar - on the initial light my first impressions is this is a really smooth tasting blend. I'm glad I waited. No harshness, no ammonia or new cigar funk. Slightly stronger than the Amante IV. After 1" I'd swear this was a HUP Mag 46 I'm smoking. I know that Hamlet and El Pres were going for a discontinued HUP Corona but that's not something I've ever tasted. My son-in-law @Devo smoked the second Spada Gorda and maybe we are just reinforcing each other's opinion but he thought it was extremely close to a Mag 46 as well. Luckily, he brought two 2018 Mag 46's for comparison and he smoked the 46 the day before - his palate is better than mine for comparing the two cigars as he's smoked more Mag 46's. Probably the final opinion that counts is where will we be spending our coin. On each of the 2021 and 2022 Desnudo releases, I've bought 50 to 75 cigars of each release right away. Each one has been slightly different but that's a subject for another post. Funny that the first MOFOH release I just bought a single 25 package. I wondered if I would like a cigar that was picked by committee. No disrespect to the talented people that @El Presidente picked - but in my business experience, I avoid decisions by committee. However, I'm converted -- it's still early, but this may be my favorite release so far. My compliments to the MOFOH tasting Panel !!! Both @Devo and myself are going back to the carts for more of the MOFOH Spada Gorda. These are only going to keep getting better with age.
