higgledy Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 (edited) I am new to cigars. Started this journey in April 2023. I have many questions I hope you guys can answer for me. This is my current setup: I have a two tupperdors with cedar trays I bought on amazon. Each tupperdor stores 50+ (new world) sticks. I have 2x 65% 60 gram Bovedas in each tupperdor. My calibrated hygrometer (SensorPush) reads an avg of 67% and 68% and the temp ranges an average of 70°F to 71°F. Is this a good setup? (I am not sure if I should switch to 62% Bovedas.) Does having the cedar trays make the tupperdor act a little more like a wooden humidor in terms of rh%? Edited September 24, 2023 by higgledy typo
Fuzz Posted September 25, 2023 Posted September 25, 2023 Nothing wrong with that setup. The questions you should be asking yourself are: How are the cigars smoking? Is the draw overly tight/plug? Do they feel spongy? Could they benefit from a day or two dry boxing? If you think they are smoking fine, eg not plugged, too tight or wrappers splitting, then smoke more and worry less. You can always try dry boxing a few cigars and see how a lower rh works for you before messing with your setup. Remember, the higher the temp and rh, the greater the chance for mold and beetles. You can remove one risk by freezing all your old stock, and freezing any new stock before introducing into your tupperdors.
higgledy Posted September 25, 2023 Author Posted September 25, 2023 Thanks. I plan to move my tupperdors to the finished basement, which is always cooler. I just need to get a shelf or find a location. Cooler should help protect from bugs and mold.
