El Presidente Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 This is a question we kicked around yesterday and it would be great to have your input The best of what constitutes todays "cheap and cheerful" CC's? No, we are not talking Partagas Shorts and the like. What we are talking about are those cigars such as Aromaticos, Belvederes, Mille Fleurs, Regalias etal that once peppered the Habanos landscape like buffalo on the plains. Which ones are still regularly available?. Which ones are the most flavoursome? Which are the best value at todays prices?
Puros Y Vino Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 (edited) For me. Most JLP's fit that bill. Quinteros Petite Quinteros, Favoritos and Panatelas. LFDC Escogidos Elegidos are great sticks too. Most of the Panetalas before they were discontinued were fine smokes too. Edited September 21, 2023 by Puros Y Vino Corrected Escogidos to Elegidos 1

JasonMc Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 Just had my first upmann majestic last weekend. It was phenomenal. Like the QYH Favoritos too. 1
riderpride Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 RJ MF based on availability. Floral/fruity when on, but charcoal when off. Based on flavour- currently Parti MF. Sourdough and leather. It's been 10 or so years, but i recall being partial to the hoyo palmas extra. Grassy cream?? Cheers! 1

Hoyo Palmas Extras I purchased this year (FEB23) are a delight. Cedar/Hay/Cream and they really pop with flavor. They were MINSAP and I haven't seen any offered online. 1
westg Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 These are the best short filler Cubans in my opinion and would take one any day of the week and twice on Sundays over a non Cuban . Cheap and cheerful and I actually quite like them I usually take a handful to work when I fly out. JLP Petit caballeros. 24 notes a stick in Aus, that said had a search this morning Aus wide and 0 to be found . I did manage to find a box of LFDC Elegidos for just over 400 notes and took them . Locally it is so thin on the ground with Cubans and the bits and pieces you can find in a coronas or Petit coronas format will cost you around 45 notes a stick . Most days I would smoke a Monte PE or QDS 50 which are somewhere between 55 and 60 a stick and scarce I have maybe 50 sticks combined and they have become a sit back and relax stick rather than an everyday smoke . Now I find myself with these lesser lines filling the gap. 4

Picked up a 22 box in Cuba past time and they're exactly the same as they've always been back to 2009. At $1.30-$2.00 still truly a cheap and cheerful. Other than JLP I would have to put RG Panetelas right up there for best value. Still about $3. 2

anacostiakat Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 Really only some of the JLP's for the wife as she likes them. Not really buying anything much since June of this year.
Midas Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 From what’s always readily available when I travel it’s either Partagas or RyJ Mille Fleurs, maybe HUHC if they’re still considered a cheap and cheerful. Those are the only 3 options which are always available in my experience. On my last trip to Cyprus I picked up a box of Partagas Aristocrats and RyJ Sport Lagos just to mix it up. Quintero I don’t mind at all with at least a couple of years down, JLP are my last resort other than the Petit Caballeros which isn’t a bad smoke at all. Vegueros seem to have gone up in price quite a bit, maybe it just me imagining they were a lot cheaper than they are now. I’ll still pick up the odd 4 pack to make up my duty free allowance if travelling but that’s the only time I’ll pick them up.

cnov Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Can recommend passive smoking Cubans. Kind on the wallet and rids you of the task of trying to select one from the coolidor. I bought some Vegeouros (who can spell it anyway??) Mananitas and JLP Petit Cazadores that have been fantastic on occasion, possibly helped by my low expectations. 2 1
winelover Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Unhelpful to say, but stay clear of this category and order the nudies instead. If one has to, then at least aspire to fork out for RASCC, PSD5, Boli Corona Juniors etc. (Once upon a time Trini Reyes).

Ford2112 Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Rg Perlas are my favorites of the little smokes, followed by RASCC and Principes. Love the Party shorts. I have been trying different short filler. Rg panatelas extra, JLP. Going to give QYH a shot soon. Why not. If I hate them I can give to friends. I let my buddy smell a JLP Brevas and he said " my god!" That's barnyard my friend.
Bijan Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 RyJ MF and sports largos. Partagas MF and super partagas. 1
