Popular Post archosaur Posted September 9, 2023 Popular Post Posted September 9, 2023 It's been a good long while since I've put a cigar review up on the 'net. Frankly, the notion of a free bundle of MOFOHs was just too enticing of a bait to resist. Beautiful appearance, love the wrapper shade. This one weighed in at 17.6 grams, it feels light in the hand but firm to the touch. This is 82 days down for my bundle. I impatiently smoked the first one about 20 days after delivery, rather late at night after perhaps a few too many drinks...and the details are hazy. I do recall that it opened with some harsh edges but smoothed out over the course of the cigar. I enjoyed the experience but didn't recall too many specifics the next day...but today, I am bright eyed and laser focused. After a guillotine cut I find the draw just on the open side of my preference. Probably should have started with a punch cut...note to self for next time. Cold draw gives me clean tobacco and a hint of doughy, raisiny sweetness. I have paired this Canonazo with a Cuba Libre, my cigar pairing of choice most of the time. The opening had just a hint of strength, what felt like a gentle kiss of ligero with a bit of bite. It was gone in an instant though. Smoking through the first third, the cigar settled into a perfectly medium bodied, decadently smooth, nutty and bready expression of quality tobacco. I am enjoying this! Through the second third, I jot down the core flavor notes I'm getting - fresh baked bread, roasted nuts, a bit of cedar, light coffee and cream. A hint of marzipan here and there. Satisfying and rich with a palate coating finish. It has been said in many of the reviews, but you have to tip your cap to the whole production team here. These are beautifully constructed cigars. A couple minor touch ups were made but this cigar was simply a joy to smoke. Voluminous smoke production. The dedication to a quality product here is obvious. The final third adds a bit bolder coffee notes to the mix, more pronounced cedar, and an earthier finish. I can sense a bit of nicotine buzz but nothing excessive or out of balance. Just under 2 hours before putting it down. Honestly, a total delight. I have been pretty much 100% Cubans for well over a decade now. I know there are great NCs out there but this cigar was really a revelation for me. I'd go 93 points on this Canonazo without hesitation. Bravo! 6 1
El Presidente Posted September 11, 2023 Posted September 11, 2023 Cheers for the review Hamlet and the team are big on QC. It has only been 8 months since Hamlet took control of the factory and it has taken time to get the "culture" right. We are still not there, give us another 12 months and we will some of the best constructed cigars in the world. Blending is an art. We are blessed to have one of the best on the FOH team. 1
