Belltownhound Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 I wish you the best of luck in tracking down the culprits! What a total nightmare.
Popular Post El Presidente Posted July 13, 2023 Popular Post Posted July 13, 2023 At least Eduardo you were onto them quickly. It was days before Ken realised he had been robbed. The place was turned upside down but it just looked normal. The perpetrators were caught. One was smoking a cohiba 1966 while swigging on a bottle of Beenleigh white rum. He was obviously the brains of the operation. 1 10

Were there security cameras? 2 at the security entrance (passcode protected), one from JCrew store next door, ring cameras inside in every aisle. let’s see if police can obtain video. the main issue is that what I kept in there was unopened boxes almost 95% of them. Or maybe missing 2 cigars. And it is a unit I come to check once every 6-12 weeks. So I can’t pinpoint the time this happened in last 8 weeks exactly. Police was going to request it from management 3
MPhillips Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 Horrible to hear. Hopefully they can get some answers.

If so, you can look at the data and see when the temp change/humidity change occurred to narrow down the timeframe.

I wonder if insurance would even pay out for it. I wonder if the storage unit had insurance, and if it didn't, I have heard of a storage unit being covered under home owners/renters insurance depending on the company and policy. In my mind thinking as an insurance company, cocaine and Cuban cigars are in the same illegal boat, so if your 4 kilos of nose candy is stolen out of the trunk of your car and you file a claim, I really don't think that they would pay that out. Exactly. There is no insurance going to compensate this. I can't even fathom a US insurance company insuring a Cuban cigar collection.
Connoisseur Kim Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 That's a really sad and tragic news indeed. So sorry to hear this.
cigcars Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 *I would start deducing a few things from here: No.1, not very many people out there are cigar-literate let alone educated about the value of these cigars. So it's plausible that this was somebody who'd been at least quasi-educated about the value of these precious smokes. We've had it happen before. You think you're sharing things with a trusted or well-liked ally or friend and they turn out to be the kind of a##holes who'll do things in their own interest - damn YOU. And then they can get some funds a lot more safely than fooling with dope, drugs, etc. As a friend of mine who'd been exposed to this industry said: "Every shut eye ain't sleep and every "goodbye" ain't gone." So you may want to consider who you'd broken bread with who learned from your trusted intimacy with them and think, who'd be the one low enough to pull something like this? And even if you don't find them, don't worrry - you reap what you sow. They'll get theirs. Remember - you don't get away with anything. I fear my Creator. Just because punishment is not immediate does not mean that it's not inevitable.

Jack Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 Very, very sorry to hear this, a loss like that is just unthinkable. I'd rather not even imagine someone absconding with "my precious". Thankfully you weren't there at the time of the burglary.

I would think it's true since importing them is illegal in the first place -- not just 'restrictions'. Popular Post PuroDiario Posted July 17, 2023 Author Popular Post Posted July 17, 2023 Confirmed inside job. There is a chance I can retrieve collection. What’s over/under the cigars are in good condition still? 11 1

What’s over/under the cigars are in good condition still? I was thinking the same. I think that's even worse! Security is pretty good getting into the facility and then getting into your unit, at least from the self storage places I've used. I think the cigars are probably fine unless they've been left outside
99call Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 It's great that you/re turning some good results. Keep on plugging away, and the best of luck to you. Persistence, a very undervalued quality.
SCgarman Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Whomever burglarized the storage unit was likely interested in the material goods, and the cigars just happened to be collateral damage. It's anyone's guess as to their condition and what was done to them if anything. 1
