I'd just promise a split, take their money and keep them ALL FOR MYSELF!!! BWWWWAAAAHAAA! 😈

Actually, I can't think of a reason I'd do a split. I might pick up 2 of the same boxes...

Underfilled may be detectable, but I don't see how a tight draw could be divined just by examining a cigar in-hand. Regardless... he should chill, maybe do a few more and let the odds even things out 😀

Hmmm... So I'd end up exactly where I am now, but with a little less money. I've been worse off though 😜

I've been reassuring my '21 HU2s that they will begin to be toast soon. I've never had a Lusi so... maybe we can split one of your boxes 😜

I don't do splits for this reason. Used to with a buddy who just wanted a few sticks but he felt ripped off every time. "Why is it so expensive when some of the cigars aren't any good?" LOL and that was at 2015 prices. Wasn't worth the squeeze because the uneducated in the CC world expect quality control in line with what they can get for 5 bucks a stick in discount bins online. After hearing that a few times I told my buddy it would be better for him to just stick to that. He never said it but I'm positive he felt resentful like I was giving him the crap sticks and keeping the better ones for myself. Like I could figure out how to do that if I wanted to. He also kept his humidor at 75 percent.

The best way I know of to do a split is to have one participant divvy up the items into two piles and the second participant chooses a pile.

Not so easy if you are far away from each other. I guess this is another example of the imperative, trust your source.

That was the first thing that came to mind :D

But fair question.

You split a box with two mates.

I would leave the crappiest cigars for myself and have no problem doing so. But how are splits normally done? Equal share of the good bad and the ugly or first  12 out of the box? or something else?

Look.  I'm not gonna play King Solomon or anything and say cut them all in half and divvy them up,

Just grab a 25er of Canonazo Amante and it's a done deal right?  There are no hard to draw or under filled smokes in the package.  As close to a win-win you can get.  The only possible argument will be who gets the 13.  😇

If I split with a friend, family member, or stranger, I will take the cracked ones/ or tell them the situation and take the majority of the shitty ones. Sounds like you either have high humidity or a terrible split partner.

After the success I've had with humidity in the 55-58% range this is the first place my head goes when I hear about burn and draw trouble.

When I've done splits I go through the box and if there were any cracked feet on any of the cigars I kept those.  Other than that, I couldn't tell which would smoke well or not.  Never had anyone complain.

If I had gotten any complaints I would stop splitting with that individual.  Not worth the grief, especially when trying to the right thing.

I have been smoking cigars for 39 years. I have still never met the person that could pick the best tasting cigars by looking at them.

Tabacuba believes that if you would only pay 3 digits a stick they could make them better! You just are not paying to get good cigars!

reading through this thread had me feeling a little insecure until I came across your post and BrightonCorgi's post.  I can understand some cigars feel heavier, have a giant knot, or might be lighter in weight than the others, but appearances can be quite deceiving.  This is especially true if we are talking about specific brands like Sancho Panza.  Some of the best Molinos I had were the ugliest.

If they are all plugged, get a perfect draw tool.  It works wonders and has saved a lot of cigars from the trash.  In this case, it might save thanksgiving dinner with the family.
