Let’s talk Fundy…

Recommended Posts

In simple translation the word fundadores translates to English as founders. Appropriate since it is the ‘founding’ cigar of the Trinidad marca.

Full Disclosure…I’m not a terribly big Trinidad fan. After the price ‘reset’ last year, I’m now even less so than before. That said, I have recently had my first Fundadores and boy was I impressed. 2-3 Days later and the Fundy is still on my brain. As I put it to another FoH’er, “What a glorious cigar”

What makes this cigar so much more than every other Trinidad I’ve tried? So smooth and balanced in the first and 2nd thirds, followed by a ratcheting of complexity in the final third. Glorious…

On the 18th Mitch is putting on a tasting of a Fundy 2002 and Dalmore 18,25 vintage 2003.

Looking forward to it. We did try for a full fohuk takeover of the event. But a bit of delay and it got snapped up.

Love me a good Fundy.

Given Rob's recent "Mr. Consistency" thread, Fundadores has been a "Mr. Inconsistency" for me over the last few years. When they're on, they are magnificent in all aspects. When they're not? They're some combination of impossibly tight, overfilled and odd tasting...I guess like any other inconsistent Cuban? But this one's supposed to be special...

As you said, the price to replace them now - combined with the consistency issues - means I am reaching for them very infrequently. Probably twice a year at most. When I do, I am praying to every diety I can think of to give me a pleasant two hours.

Some of the best cigars I've ever smoked and also some of the lamest.

I have exactly one Fundadores from a bunch I had a couple years ago. I'm saving it. Great cigars but it's the last one I'll ever buy .

I think the rest of the Trini line is a lot more simple in it's blend.   That slightly salty donut flavour.  The Fundy adds an aromatic sandalwood character, and that what really sets it apart for me.

The original Fundadores release was over hyped and little by little they got better.  They never lived up to me against similar sized cigars.

They are just a really pleasant cigar. A good Espy or Lancero is much more interesting to me, and a good Lusi is similar in its delicious wholesomeness. Would I love to have a few boxes resting? Oh yes! But they were tricky to get hold of even pre-Covid.
