El Presidente Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 What's moving your needle? The cigar community is pretty clued on. What is moving your internal needle right now?. Music, books, podcasts, YouTube, insta....it doesn't really matter, What is making you "prop and stop" Today 2
Bill Hayes Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Been kind of following two interests on Instagram. No, not craft beer or sneakers or cigars. Well, yes... but science/astronomy and comedy. Using digital graphics etc, some of the more difficult theories to explain to a regular person like me have been shown. Gives you a visual perspective of how large the universe actually is, and gives perspective at these times when once again, humans are trying to kill each other over land and resources. Makes me think of Karl Sagen's pale blue dot speech all those years ago. The other one is I've been following a female comedian who I think will be huge. Stephanie Yunger. She is youngish and very beautiful, which makes her comedy great because she essentially is an influencer who pokes fun at influencers and is brilliant at impersonations and accents. My fave is 'Diane' the housewife who gets tipsy on watered down Hennessy so it looks like wine. The other is an English woman who has a funny take on science/history etc. It looks like it's from the 70's. She interviews people - Philomena Cunk - cunkoneverything Cheers 3
HoyoFan Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 I've really gotten on the health train with Peter Attia. His podcast has been great but his new book Outlive is fantastic. He takes a very different approach to medicine as a proactive approach rather than a reactive one. Given that he's an MD, and one of the best in the country, its refreshing to read science-based thoughts rather than subjectivity. Highly suggest either his podcast or the book. 3

Andrew Huberman is another good one. The only thing I don’t like about both is they talk about how terrible alcohol is for your health and sleep. I like drinking beer way too much. Everything else I’m totally on board with! 2 1
Michael303 Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 The censorship industrial complex reporting being done by Glenn Greenwald, Matt Taibi, and Michael Shellenberg is some of the more important and interesting journalism going right now. In the health space I agree Peter Attia and Huberman are adding so much to the public space. I really like Robb Wolf too. Bari Weis and Jordan Peterson's podcast are also immediate listens for me too. 3

Her kind of comedy is not for everyone but I love it. Have yet to watch her show - I’ve heard it can be a bit overwhelming and that she’s better in small doses, but yet to see for myself. 1

Yeah, I only see small snippets of 1 to 2mins on Instagram. It's a bit same-o-same-o but does give me a chuckle. Cheers

I recently found out about her too. Great stuff! 1

Can’t recommend the Oura ring and it’s sleep tracking algos, app enough if you really want personal data on that. It’s altered how/when I have alcohol so it doesn’t affect my sleep and heart metrics as much Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1

It is pretty awesome and amazing to see how it picks up on stuff. I spend alot of time at higher altitudes and it will detect the most modest changes. Agree on the how/when, the strategy I have been employing is not consuming alcohol for several hours before bed…it seems to really help. For some reason the Whoop/app gives me motivation to maximize my health/recovery/sleep. Tonight with Devils/Rangers on it will test my willpower! For someone looking to really track/analyze their health/sleep I’d highly recommend some type of product like these. 1 1
