I purchased SmartMouth Premium Toothpaste 3.4oz & Original Activated Mouthwash Single Packs, PerfecRepair Cigar Glue on last Sunday. Since I've never tried them before, I have some questions about these two products.

For those who use these two products, is it okay to apply PerfecRepair cigar glue to damaged cigars and then age them in my tupperdors? I have some damaged Monte 1s and I found them needed to be fixed before puffing'em. I also wonder how many SmartMouth mouthwash single packs should I use after puffing cigars. I heard SmartMouth mouthwash and toothpaste is great for dealing with cigar breath, so I decided to give them a shot.

The cigar glue is pretty much the same kind of natural glue used in making the cigars so there's nothing to worry about. I blow through the stuff pretty quickly so I started making my own with gum arabic powder. I mix it up and re-use the PerfecRepair bottles.

Cigar breath, I can't help you. I guess your significant other will tell you how much mouthwash you need.

Thanks @NSXCIGAR! I didn't expect that I can keep damaged cigars as soon as I apply cigar glues to them. Gum arabic and gum tragacanth powders can be obtained in my country too so I might make my own cigar glue when PerfecRepair is ran out.

For DIY cigar glue recipe, what ratio between gum arabic/tragacanth and distilled water should I use?

I mix it until it's about the same consistency as the PerfecRepair glue. I didn't measure it out. Pretty easy to eyeball it. A 1oz (28g) pack of gum arabic will last forever. Doesn't take much.

Much appreciated @NSXCIGAR! I found some people prefer to use more or less ratios for making them thicker, but it looks like a trial and error process until I get satisfying result.

I made glue using fruit pectin from the grocery store. Works excellent and is super cheap.

Thanks @Michael303! I heard fruit pectin is good for repairing cigars too but both gum arabic and gum tragacanth are also easily accesible as fruit pectin in Korea. I feel glad that I can source any of these cigar glue ingredients since some of cigar tools like cigar glues are unavailable in my country.

Good to have options! I'd just grab whatever's cheapest and easiest then and mix until it's thick like @NSXCIGAR mentioned.

I'm surprised how much I use it since making some. I'm in a dry climate and cigars are always trying to come apart in the winter.

Thanks @Michael303! It's great that there are plenty of ingredient options for making cigar glues in my country.

The weather in Korea is wet during summer, dry on spring and winter but luckily I've never had cigars being suddenly come apart issue so far.

I always use the listerine that’s not really flavored and kinda yellow. Feels super strong compared to the flavored stuff. If I brush my teeth and use that stuff combined with a quick face wash, I’ve been told by my girlfriend it covers up most of the smell.

Just use one of these.... :lookaround:  Results not guaranteed! :P

Just my experience but I find the pectin leaves more of a white residue on the cigar and tends to dry into a thicker shell. The gum arabic stays pretty clear and thin.

Dat glue seems to be powerful but not sure if I can use it on cigars though.

You're right @NSXCIGAR. Pectin tends to leave some sorta white residue on cigars when it dries. This is the main reason why I'm considering using gum ararabic or gum tragacanth for making cigar glues.

I use Dr. Katz's mouthwash and toothpaste. It actually works.

Thanks @JY0! Looks like there are other great mouthwash and toothpaste for cigar breath. Unlike SmartMouth, TheraBreath is available in my country which sounds good for me. However, TheraBreath mouthwashes in Korea are diffrent from the ones in America since they don't contain OXYD-8 due to Ministry of Food and Drug Safety's regulation (it's very strict with functional food and cosmeceutical products).

I had a bad experience with Therabreath (US version). What I believed happened was that it killed all the bacteria in my mouth (good and bad bacteria). And then the bad bacteria grew back faster. After a few days everything tasted weird and felt weird and I assumed I had been put under a curse by satan or the crazy bus driver that lives down the street.
My wife, after telling me I was a massive idiot, got out loads of different probiotics, yogurts, unpasteurised cheeses etc and put me on a 2 week course to try to rebalance the delicate rain forest that is my mouth.

My dad was a daily pipe smoker and used to rinse with that yellow Listerine. So he always smelt of stale pipe and yellow listerine

I’d love to finish on a positive note, but that’s all I’ve got.

Thanks for sharing your Therabreath (US version) experience @HuffnPuffff. Both SmartMouth and Therabreath seem to be popular on many cigar forums for cigar breath removal, but it looks like Therabreath has some risks which I didn't aware of. Will let you know when I try SmartMouth moutwash after puffing cigars.

Hey, original SmartMouth user here. I've tried everything else including Therabreath (yuck) and SmartMouth was the only product that worked consistently for me (and my wife who has the nose of a bloodhound).

I was using the toothpaste until recently when my dentist finally figured out I have gum sensitivity to SLS which is used in most toothpastes, so I just use the mouthwash now. Once when I'm done smoking for the day, and then once the next morning.

Right as rain.

Much appreciated @Cigar Surgeon! I've read your SmartMouth Mouthwash review in the past and this encouraged me to buy SmartMouth products with a huge confidence 👍.

I also noticed that there is a SmartMouth Clinical DDS version on their website too (reviews said it's a direct upgrade of Original Mouthwash in terms of ingredients). Is it great as SmartMouth Original one?

That I can't say. I've only used the original version, the toothpaste, and the travel packs. I assume it's just the original version with some enamel supporting ingredients?

According to SmartMouth website, Clinical DDS is an OTC substitute for prescription chlorhexidine rinse. However, both Original and Clinical DDS seem to be great for bad breath removal despite of minor differences (some reviews said Clinical DDS lasted longer than Original though).

Well I'm headed to Vegas in July for the PCA tradeshow so maybe I'll pick up the DDS and see how my experience compares to the original.

Thanks @Cigar Surgeon! Can't wait to see your SmartMouth Clinical DDS review since I'm planning to buy Clinical DDS 2-Bottle System when SmartMouth travel package is ran out (their single packs are quite expensive for long runs compare to bottle ones).

No worries. I'd do the test up here but since their packaging change a few years ago they haven't been on the shelf so I've been forced to order off Amazon which is not an inexpensive option.

Sure thing mate. SmartMouth bottles has two versions which are combined bottle and separated 2-Bottle System, but their combined bottle seems to have a uneven amount of liqud issue according to user reviews. I think 2-Bottle System is for those who prefer pre 2015 SmartMouth mouthwash design over current 2-in-1 offering IMHO.
