DOYLE Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 I picked up the entire JLP collection so I can have some lower end CC's. For those who have smoked Jose L. Piedra, how has each vitola done with age? I'm wondering how long I should age them, if any of you have found a sweet spot of aging duration where they peak, or if they are even worth aging at all. Thank you in advance I recently acquired: Brevas Cazadores Conservas Cremas Petit Cetros Petit Cazadores Petit Caballeros
LordAnubis Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Petite caballeros are miles ahead of everything in my view. Though the Cremas are a great size I find. Don’t age any of them. They don’t deserve the space they take up in your humidor nor do they improve with it. Just burn through em. 1
garbandz Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 I have had good results by ageing them in a cedar cab. generally a year will smooth them out, and 16 to 18 months will give them time to show what they can become. A lot depends on the year their tobacco was grown, but in a good year JLP"s will be a good smoke. 2
NSXCIGAR Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 I've only smoked the Petit Cetros regularly and I've generally had the best results with 5-8 years on them. I'm working through a box of 15s right now and they're as good as usual. I haven't tried any recent production but I will probably grab a newer box next time in Cuba. 1
Edwhatever Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Just last week had a JLP Cazadores from 2018. It smoked great, no complaints at all. There wasn't a point in through the cigar where I felt like I needed to abandon it. It was nice and smooth, good aroma throughout. Compare that to a 20 year non-plus it's a completely different taste. It was just all aged, no complexity whatsoever, very smooth though. I'm a believer in moderate aging. That is if you're going to smoke the cigar instead of flipping it. 1
