For clarity, Ben is my eldest son to first wife Angela ;)

Di and I are to be married on the 20th of May. Dad's 90th birthday is the 16th of July. Mum and dads 60th wedding anniversary is November. it's a big year :D

Oh my bad, sorry for the confusion. Either way congrats. Hope it was a nice ceremony and you cherish the milestones you'll soon be a part of. .

Congrats @El Presidente. Big year for sure. My stepdaughter is probably getting married soon. Her boyfriend just awkwardly asked me for permission to propose to her. I was thinking that probably the best advice for them, or anyone in their position, was not to listen to anyone who told them anything negative. There's always going to he someone who wants to being you down for whatever reason.

Of course they're both lawyers so they could not have made worse decisions throughout the balance of their lives. What's one more terrible choice?

I have a good friend who practices family law, which means 99% divorces and custody battles. His view is that couples should only be allowed to marry after they've been dating for 20 years. If you still get on well after getting tired of each other, you know you're onto a winner 😉

I don't think he's 100% serious (though he is unmarried), but there is some truth to what he says. Getting engaged during a honeymoon period is a terrible idea. You need to get over at least one serious hump before you can be sure of a relationship's durability. Because the humps will inevitably come, no matter how much you love each other.

I'm sure your good friend is raking in the cash. Sounds like a job with great security, regardless of economic conditions. Is he into cigars?

He hates family law but acknowledges it is truly recession- (and even pandemic)-proof.

He thinks cigars are foul. He calls democrats “Demon-rats” but also thinks smoking should be outlawed and people should be forced to get vaccinated (or at least he did when the vaccines first came out). Interesting fellow.

That said, recently and after much pestering he agreed to try a CC with me next time we hang out somewhere that allows smoking. So we’ll see!

My wife is a court reporter, she does a lot of different cases including divorces.

All I know is I'm an amazing husband.

(this was supposed to be tongue in cheek. The cases she sits for are real shit shows)
