Popular Post Rhinoww Posted April 11, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 11, 2023 My best buddy had a birthday over the weekend. I was out of town yada yada. Tomorrow he is coming over for a birthday cigar and a drink. He wanted to be surprised - but in a good way 😂- with a cigar I select. I was thinking of a Sir Winston I picked up from our host a few years ago in a sixer that were simply dripping w oil. GRM FEB 21 Could be a bit early as they are maybe two years down. Could crack into a 2017 SW box, perhaps a Boli CG, a Lusi or maybe an esmerelda. Lots of other choices from what I would describe as a well developed collection of regular production sticks. Never been one for the RE or LE. While thinking of what I might share (he has earned the right to smoke whatever he wants), I was wondering what folks here tend to smoke for their birthday/special occasion cigar. looking for some Inspiration. I’m leaning towards the SW or Boli CG as I would like try them as well. so, what do you save to smoke on your birthday? 5
dominattorney Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 CoLa, SW, or Monte A. You can't go wrong with any you have selected. 4
pohlmad Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 I like birthday smokes to take some time. We are celebrating after all! We should have no place to be, the adult beverages flowing, tunes in the background, with great conversation. Given that, I think you are on the right path but would suggest considering the Esplendido, RA Gigantes, and Punch DC, along with your SW, Lusi and Boli CG. Enjoy whatever you end up picking! 4
jakebarnes Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 Lusi is always a good pick. I agree it should take some time and that's a beautiful cigar to enjoy with a friend. 4
Hyun G Shin Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 2011 Cohiba Behike 56, Montecristo 1935, and good aged Funda Dores 3
Bri Fi Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 I usually pick something tolerable but not something too expensive. In the case of the drinks flowing, I don’t want to waste an esplendido when I’m ready to karaoke a song I’ve never even heard of before. 2 1

Potentially you would be introducing him to something that would be difficult to repeat. SW has been my birthday cigar since the demise of its cousin the Monarca. Paired with a nice Scotch. Enjoy 2

Monarchs are the single biggest missed cigar for me. That was such a great & well priced cigar. I smoked them so casually never thinking they'd be gone. Disappeared quick too. Some cigars can sit for years after being discontinued. Not those... 4
Popular Post foursite12 Posted April 11, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 11, 2023 I'm fortunate to have a few boxes of Partagas 8-9-8 left. Over the course of 90 minutes, that cigar will cut through booze, lively conversation, hazy conversation, any kind of music and sports on the tube. Perfect birthday smoke for me. 5
jazzboypro Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 My birthday is in January, a usually very cold month over here so i rarely smoke on that occasion. Last time i did was when i got 50 and it was a Behike 54 at the cigar lounge of the Rib'n Reef restaurant. It was quite an evening... 3
Popular Post El Presidente Posted April 11, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 11, 2023 Birthday for me is Winston/Espy/SLR DC territory 5
Rhinoww Posted April 12, 2023 Author Posted April 12, 2023 We smoked the sir Winstons. They were great. He really enjoyed it. As I said, the good news for him is that I have 29 left so he will have more to smoke w me for special occasions. The bad news for him was that I told him how great the SLR DC were and I only have one left. He’s out of luck there 😂 4
Greenhorn2 Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 Cohiba piramides extra is what I usually smoke. This is the one cigar that hasn't failed me yet.(knock on wood) 4
gormag38 Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 I must say, for me it's usually one of the big dogs. SW/Espy/Lusi/VI. I often times want to try a thinner RG cigar, ala CoLa, but don't want the disappointment of a plug. I've generally had good luck with the DCs/Churchills. On another note: you'll have to let us know how the SLR DC smokes, will probably never get a chance to try one but have heard good things. 3
loose_axle Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 One of my best mates and I had a long standing system that we smoked a Monte Especial on his birthday (from my stash) and a Trinidad Fundadores (from his stash) on mine. Given the current shortages we've curtailed this agreement in favour of a system where we'll smoke a Winfield Blue on his and a Winfield Red on mine... "We can't afford Cubans but anyhow, have a Winfield" will probably be our new birthday slogan. 3
