El Presidente Posted April 6, 2023 Posted April 6, 2023 We finish up today for the 4 day Easter weekend which in Oz is massive as it coincides with school holidays and families head to the beach/camping for the last of the warm rays before the onset of the cooler months. Di and I don't have too much planned bar some long family lunches over the weekend. I have some work to catch up on and Di has some household DIY projects to complete. God knows I am no help there Do you have a few extra days off or is it just like any other weekend? Let us know what you are up to 2
Popular Post LizardGizmo Posted April 6, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 6, 2023 Wife and the kids leave town tomorrow for a week to visit her family in Nashville. Me and the pup roughing it as a duo for the week. It’s going to be a long weekend of cigars, YouTube vortex, take-out and scotch. My excitement is at an all time high!!! 5
Fuzz Posted April 6, 2023 Posted April 6, 2023 Heading over to @jay8354's on Saturday to hang out with some of the other Sydney FOH reprobates. Then Sunday is a BBQ with the family. I may not be completely recovered for that BBQ. 4
Popular Post GVan Posted April 6, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 6, 2023 Lots of family in this Easter weekend from all over the country. So far I've smoked two 4" thick, heavily marbled Chuck Roasts (poor man's brisket) and Saturday it's going to be 18 pounds of pulled pork for the family. Of course, lots of beer and great wine - last night was a 1998 Cos de Estournel that was still drinking fabulous (that one was for you @Ken Gargett). On November 12th, 2022 I posted - Our Personal Meaning of Veterans Day - November 11th It was in honor of my Father-in-Law who was a medic of the First Battalion, Forty-First Field Artillery, Fifty-Sixth Field Artillery Brigade stationed at the US base in Stuttgart, Germany. Sadly, he passed away this past Monday and the entire family is in to honor his memory. Sad - but he also lived a very full life with 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mom passed a little more than a year ago and just two weeks ago he told us that he was ready to go because it had been some time and he was worried that he wouldn't find mom in heaven (still brings tears to my eyes). Anyway, the moral of this long Easter Weekend tale is live well, spend time with loved ones and smoke em if you've got them - don't wait ! 9 1

Popular Post BrightonCorgi Posted April 6, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 6, 2023 My aunt is too Covid crazy to have a Seder at her house. Even a virtual Seder may be too risky for spread of Covid for her. She doesn't even want to meet her new grandchild in person since the baby is not vaccinated. She was the one who'd previously have a dozen plus at her house. I guess that leaves Easter Sunday... We have a lamb leg from a farm down the road that I plan to cook. Kind of on a small side, but with a few sides should be fine. I plan to do it in a Middle Eastern style and sides. I think that would be most familiar to Jesus, but I wonder what was actually served at the Last Supper. Are there any detailed description beyond the Seder plate what was served? 7
Cabbie Posted April 6, 2023 Posted April 6, 2023 As long as none of my workers calls in, it will be like any other weekend. I will celebrate this weekend with a nice cigar though. I look forward to it. 4
Popular Post HuffnPuffff Posted April 6, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 6, 2023 4 days of being a 5 person family with ankle biters in Hong Kong. We haven’t even recovered yet from the fantastic HK 7’s last weekend!Looking forward to getting a few chores done, a little chess with my 7 year old, a touch of practical maths problems with my 9 year old and hopefully not getting too bent out of shape by my 3 year old. Lamb chops on Friday (don’t tell my mum!) as they’ll go out of date otherwise and they cost a small fortune, roast chicken on Saturday and mostly chocolate on Sunday at the local kids club. Saturday night the wife and I are going out for a spanker of a dinner at a down-to-earth but brilliant restaurant, and bringing a bottle of La Grande Dame from 07 or 08 (I forget which). BYOB restaurants appeal to me, however I think it’s important to offer a glass to the chef and / or sommelier. Not charging corkage is a labour of love and a punch in the purse. Afterwards my wife is excited about getting stuck into a new box of Bolivar Royal Coronas I just bought from El Prezo (“I’ve found my cigar - don’t ever give me anything else”). As it happens I’ve a few boxes down so we’ll be smoking some ‘19’s. Monday involves a beach BBQ in Sheko, which might involve my second cigar of the weekend, as long as the kids are distracted for long enough in the shark infested waters…Happy days y’all!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 8
Popular Post BossHogg Posted April 6, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 6, 2023 Enjoyed a family and friends passover seder last night. Fired up a Monte Double Edmundo May 17 EOT by the firepit from our gracious host. It was a nice 2 hour peaceful night with some Firestone Walker 2019 Anniversary beer to compliment it 👍 6
Popular Post Nevrknow Posted April 6, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 6, 2023 Loaded up my best bourbon and cigars and headed to Nashville. SIL's father passed. Celebration of life Friday night. Then spend the weekend going thru life stories with him with great cigars and hooch. Live everyday gentlemen. You never know when it's your turn. 10
Cigar Surgeon Posted April 6, 2023 Posted April 6, 2023 Doing a guest spot on Prime Time / Cigar Coop tonight at 10pm EST with some other media members. I'd imagine we're going to discuss largely the PCA trade show timing change to March of 2024, as well as potential venue changes from Vegas in the future. Should be a good one. Friday I have the day off, need to catch up on cigar reviews I'm way behind this week with life. Saturday we're having my wife's family over for an Easter brunch. Should be nice, first time we're having them over since we adopted our rescue dog Bonnie. Sunday I'm thinking more cigar reviews and probably a pile of housework. 4

May you remember the good times with those close to you. Thanks for the amazing advice, you are completely right 👍
Popular Post fisherclive Posted April 6, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 6, 2023 Wife and I are leaving Sunday for a trip to Mexico. Booked an all inclusive resort with a swim up suite, nothing planned other that seeing Chichen Itzu and snorkeling with turtles. Bringing some good cigars, hopefully I'll be able to smoke them 6

El Hoze Posted April 7, 2023 Posted April 7, 2023 I have a four year old. One Easter egg hunt down, three to go. I am cooking a huge batch of excellent-looking oxtail for Sunday. I’ll want to get those cooking Saturday morning as I think oxtail really benefits from extra time. Work has been bonkers stressful so hopefully alot of watching golf/baseball/pool/beer rotation. 3

My wife makes a traditional Brazilian recipe with shredded yucca to thicken the gravy it cooks in (along with a of hot peppers). 1
TroutBum Posted April 7, 2023 Posted April 7, 2023 Lost my Grandfather Tuesday this week after a pretty short ugly battle with cancer, His wife (my grandma’s) birthday is today, so all going over there so she isn’t alone. River therapy definitely in order… 1 2
dominattorney Posted April 7, 2023 Posted April 7, 2023 @jakebarnes, hope you shake what's nagging you too. Me, I'll be smoking a ham on Saturday for wife and her kids then off to the club Sunday for a brunch and wine. Should be relaxing, but I start in on a serious trial Monday so I'll probably also be sweating that. One of those pesky trials where your client is probably innocent so you stay up til 3 am every night worrying and planning. 1

For sure some kind of starch to thicken the braising liquid is the way to go. I tend to prefer potatoes (typical American my wife would say) for this I may just go yucca. She prefers yucca, plantains, or malanga. I love super spicy but will make this batch low heat for the crowd, will serve it with roasted habanero salsa to spice it up for those that want it. 1

ha_banos Posted April 7, 2023 Posted April 7, 2023 Lots going on it seems. I've got the extra couple of days off. But it's not Easter until next weekend! You lot got it all wrong as usual. Walk around the park and a curry done today. Tomorrow day out chillaxing. Sunday will have to mow the lawn and start on some garden prep. Raining Monday... Then next week will have to organise BBQ. FIL is too weak now. He'll have no choice but to let us take full control... Wish us luck...Here's hoping for a dry weekend... HUHC today. No idea but planning a cigar next 3 days too! 3
