SonGoku Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Have you ever had issues smoking on the balcony of a non smoking hotel room? Not that I often stay at hotels but I have never encountered a problem with this before. But just asked for an astray in the reception and they refused to provide me one due to the reason I’m staying in a non smoking room. Even though I explained it was only for smoking on the balcony. The hotel gift shop sold small canisters of Pringles though. After 8 hours in Ferrari World I kind of needed to relax with a cigar. Specifically ordered a non smoking room as I’m on vacation with my son and payed extra for a room with a balcony so that I could have a cigar when he sleeps. And even mentioned cigar smoking on the balcony on the reservation. Made sense they located us on the top floor I thought, when arriving yesterday
DaBoot Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 As long as there is no trace of smoke smell in your room when you leave, should be good.
Chibearsv Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Never ask the dingalings at the desk about whether you can smoke or not. Just go for it outside. I've never had an issue and have smoked on lots of balconies in non smoking hotels. I suppose a sensitive neighbor could put a wrinkle in that plan but it's never happened to me. 4

There are balconies and balconies. If your smoke is bothering neighbours you can be in trouble. If it is a typical hotel balcony where few if any open the door then you are fine as long as there is no evidence left behind. I always carry a small roll of alfoil to make a quick and easy cigar ashtray (wrap a soup bowl) where ash/buts can be wrapped up and disposed of. 2 3

HerrHonaker Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 I just use a coffee cup from the room and then wash it out.
Lamboinee Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Concur. If neighbors complain you might have trouble. Otherwise, you should be fine.

You have to leave zero evidence and that means not using the room bin to dispose of ash etal. Deck Dave's $300 USD fine charged a week after he left his Fiji Sheraton hotel (smoking fine) is testament. He was only using the baclony but tipped ash into the general refuse bin in the kitchen. 2 1
Hammer Smokin' Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 that happened to us at a nice hotel in Toronto. just some ashes were left in the garbage. $250 dollar charge! 1 2
Nevrknow Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Ozium. Kills all odors. Also, watch your not smoking in front of the air unit nor a cracked open door. Got a friend of mine a $250 charge also.

Bagman Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 All these replies are crazy to me. The answer is no, you shouldn't smoke. Someone else could open their window and not like the smoke. Or they have kids. So many cigar smokers have an F-you mentality. Then we wonder why the rest of the world goes out of their way to ban smoking?? 4

Then we wonder why the rest of the world goes out of their way to ban smoking?? All to easy ! You are in a non smoking room . Dont smoke there . That includes the balcony. I have seen topics like this head south very quicky. Smoking and that includes cigars has bordered on the margins of conventional morality for over a decade now probably two. And I smoke cigars as much as anyone. My two cents ....to try and hide it with coffee cups and al foil and toilet flushing seriously ? . To sit and smoke a cigar and hope you dont get caught or bother anyone and then try and cover it up. Why even bother . A little shocked at some responses. 1
Popular Post Ford2112 Posted February 25, 2023 Popular Post Posted February 25, 2023 To be fair. I wouldn't be worrying about being caught. I don't think smoking cigars is wrong. Call me old fashioned. The world has gotten soft. 8

dms99 Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 Now that cannabis is been legalized practically all over the US you will mostly be smelling someone's doobie while on your balcony. If a hotel has a strict non smoking policy then I don't smoke, I'll usually go outside and find a bench near the grounds. 3
Cigarsmoker81 Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 I always do it and I’ve had no issues enjoy
RDB Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 I say: use your common sense. Don’t do something that would bother a non-smoking guest in a nearby room. 3
BrightonCorgi Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 I'll smoke on the balcony depending on the depth of the balcony and locale. I have to feel confident that I can prevent smoke coming and the balcony is an enjoyable environment to smoke the cigar. Even worse than not being able to smoke is lighting up a cigar and having to put it out 5 minutes into it. Seeing you were at Ferrari World; wife & I smoked on the balcony all week when we were in Abu Dhabi. Would I do the same at another Marriott in the US? Each hotel is different. 2

Hotboxx Posted February 26, 2023 Posted February 26, 2023 Occasionally on vacation you are going to see some bad behavior. You know that going in. Like me smoking a cigar. You’ll just have to deal with it. 2
usleepicreep Posted February 26, 2023 Posted February 26, 2023 Depends, I was just at the moon palace and cancun and smoked a few cigars on the balcony no problem. 1
SmokyFontaine Posted February 26, 2023 Posted February 26, 2023 I'm in the "be a good citizen" camp. Like El Pres says in missing out on 24:24, they're just cigars. It's not just that you're in a non-smoking room it's about the consideration of everyone else around you who considers adjacent balconies and spaces to be non- smoking too. Folks who paid for their room just like you did. I'll usually do a walk around the city if I want to get a smoke in. Less convenient, but IMO more considerate.
