I think I may have posted a small pamphlet version of this in the past, but this one is much more expansive. 

I can't quite get my head around the "STINGER" i.e. Spanish Brandy mixed with Creme de Menth.......sounds pretty gut churning

The Stinger was, at one time, one of the most popular cocktails in the world. It is traditionally made with Cognac and White Creme de menthe, with proportions generally varying between equal 1:1 parts and 3 parts Cognac to 1 part White Creme de menthe.

Up until the late 1920s it was not considered a cocktail, rather, it was thought of as an after dinner drink or digestif.

It began to fall out of favour around the 1970s. Today, I would imagine it is an obscure drink in comparison to the more popular Martini, Daiquiri or Old-Fashioned Cocktail.

I have a pretty extensive antiquarian cocktail book collection and some of the recipes will absolutely make your stomach turn! The US Prohibition era ones are pretty interesting, with how they tried to work around the quality of the bootleg hooch.

A different edition of this pamphlet. Recipe was the same, unfortunately. Ha.

 

One little follow-up below: Considered by some to be the original published "Stinger" recipe variation, called "The Judge", by William "the only William" Schmidt in 1891 from "The Flowing Bowl"
