Also no such government has started confiscating heroin or cocaine (by eavesdropping on everyone with a smart speaker), so that's another bridge to cross. And possession of those two is criminal already.

Many public housing initiatives and apartment building are banning tobacco already.

They already confiscate drugs when you are arrested for possession.  They confiscate everything when a property is raided for distribution.  Public eavesdropping can be used as a basis for a search warrant.

Tobacco is likely to be added to a scheduled drug list first.  The future for legal tobacco use looks grim.

There's no "right" to own or use tobacco, so confiscation is totally plausible.  Did you think 10 years ago that men can give birth?  There is no such thing as male and female?  Why would tobacco confiscation be so far fetched or unlikely?

Tobacco ownership fines/seizures are the next steps if there are no taxes coming in due to banning tobacco sales, importation, or cultivation.

I never said it was legally impossible, I just really don’t see the government going door to door seizing people’s tobacco any time soon. There are many countries that are way more anti-tobacco than the US and as far as I can’t tell none of them have seriously considered confiscating tobacco.

A no-smoking zone in a property you don't own is not the criminalization of tobacco.

Legislatively, criminalizing tobacco is going to be a very steep hill. Citizens United is terrible law, but it will allow tobacco companies to continue to line the pockets of politicians to prevent that from ever happening.

Which on this list are tobacco companies?  I couldn't find a better list or list by industry & influence.

Likely private firms. I am not that plugged into the lobbying world outside of finance. Not sure why you're taking such an accusatory approach here though in your responses. I'd recommend a cigar and a beverage and maybe a little time unplugged from the internet.

There are actually two lobbyists on the list:

Rich Haselwood and Shashrina Thomas, Reynolds American Inc.

And, as you can see here, in 2021 tobacco companies spent over $30 million on lobbying and employed over 250 lobbyists. And that is just federal level lobbying.

Value for money, they are likely to keep politicians on their side for a good long while yet.

Ok just to even things out, we have been here in California for for a week on vacation and have a week of holiday to go. We have chosen a different cigar lounge to relax in each afternoon, finding incredible nc or CC’s!!, met friends, watched tv and been treated so well.

We in Canada are not allowed to smoke in a public place, taxes are 3x and the labels and boxes are like black toilet paper. So quit yer complaining you pussies.

These are cigars and they are a luxurious treat. Enjoy them with us anytime, anywhere and we will make you so happy.

CB.

Enjoy the trip.

The Only good thing left in California is the weather.  Until that gets manipulated too.

Depends on the region. NorCal is still a better place than most to live.

I live on the Monterey Peninsula. I chuckle at all the Cali hate. I tune out all that crap and just live my life.

Its sad what they did in Canada to the cigar bars.   In my state we were lucky when they voted in the smoking ban at bars they carved out an exemption for cigar bars.   We have several good ones in town.  Hope you are enjoy your trip.   It's crazy that LA got snow.

Other than having to hopscotch around the human excrement on the sidewalks in SF it's a lovely place. :2thumbs:

Haha. I'm further north than that (Butte County).
