dshot Posted February 10, 2023 Posted February 10, 2023 Long story short I'm going on a trip to Tampa/Saint Pete area soon. Is there any recommendations you guys have? Something I should hit up? So far I have: 1) Grand Cathedral Cigars 2) Tampa Sweethearts 3) Corona Cigar Company 4) Iffy on The J.C. Newman Factory Tour? Not much of a tour guy. I'd like to take/consume some good house blends if I can. Everything else is homogenized like Milk for me typically. Like I can find it everywhere.
Tunkat92 Posted February 11, 2023 Posted February 11, 2023 The above suggestions are great. La Faraona Cigars is in Ybor City. I enjoy their sticks 1
Sir Diggamus Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 If you are looking for house blends you can typically find several small shops on 7th ave in Ybor City that have their own blends. As far as places to see, King Corona cigars in Ybor is a great place to have a cigar and people watch, if you are in the area after 8pm or so on the weekend there is typically some interesting things to see. They also have a decent cigar selection and a lot of good coffee drinks. While you are in Ybor they have a park and museum that has a LOT of the old cigar stuff from when Ybor was a titan in cigar production. Old boxes and cigar art, rolling tables and info on the factories, and lots of pictures. Worth a visit and probably only an hour or so to see the whole thing. A place that gets overlooked a lot in favor of Ybor is the Cigar Castle. It is closer to USF area, but Atul that owns the place has a fantastically curated humidor and a large local craft beer. Chas.Alpha Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 I’m always going to recommend Cutter’s Cigar in Brandon. No house blend that I am aware of. A rep from one of the bigger labels flew a group down to Nicaragua for a house blend some few years ago (I was invited but couldn’t make it) Did the tasting panel and when the blend was selected, they somehow weren’t able to deliver. Amazingly, some months later that same Marca had a new cigar, spot on with the Cutter’s house blend. 😳 If you make it over there, tell Alex the owner that you’re a friend of “Cuba Charlie.” 😀 The managers of many of the cigar shops in Tampa will be found lurking at Alex’s shop… 100 kinds of beer…
