Popular Post Russell Posted February 5, 2023 Popular Post Posted February 5, 2023 Diamond Crown - Julius Caesar TAA ‘22 “Shark” These are part of an exclusive coffin for charity, put out on an annual basis from Fuente and JC Newman. It’s a $50 coffin and profits go to charity. 👍🏼 I’m not entirely sure if this is a unique blend compared to the regular production Julius Caesar line, but I am pretty sure they just slapped a second band on a “Shark” JC. I’d like to smoke a regular production JC and see if there is a difference. Regardless, I am a big fan of the unique box pressed torpedo shape. Here’s a description of the Julius Caesar blend; “Dressed in an Ecuador Havana-seed wrapper draped over a Dominican binder, and featuring an eclectic mix of Caribbean basin and Central American fillers” 1st third: Seems like she’s a slow start and is pretty one dimensional. There are some earthy musky notes, but fairly smooth with minimal NC spice. 2nd third: Picking up now in strength and body The best way to describe the profile in the second third is it was like eating milk chocolate covered cashews in a wood shop. Final third: Milk chocolate has turned to more of a bitter chocolate. Wood notes have overpowered the nuttiness from the 2nd third. Earthy background has come back. Zero heat or harshness in the final third which adds a few points for me. Final thoughts: This cigar is beautifully constructed. I mean the ash stayed on until I had to take the primary band off! Also, I am a big fan of the “Shark” box pressed torpedo shape. I like that this is part of a limited charity run 👍🏼👍🏼 A great smoke but I feel like there could’ve been a little more complexity. Final score: 90 - wouldn’t hesitate to have again, and has definitely prompted me to try the regular production Julius Caesar line. 12 1
TroutBum Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 The diamond crowns I have tried have tapped out in that 88-90 range, nice smokes no doubt but never really cracking that upper echelon that any of the Cubans have when they are on. Seems to me NC tops out at 92-93 but perception could have a lot to do with that 1
Tunkat92 Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 Still got my ‘21 never picked up the ‘22s maybe its time to light mine up. Thanks for the review! 1
duabley Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 I also like the fuente sharks! And i also find this smoke to be one dimensional. Not bad, just not worth seeking out. Never tried it in the shark format tho. Currently 3/4 through a box of torps (regular production) and doubt I'll ever get another. Same flavors (just muted) as you describe. 1
