Popular Post hawkeye5050 Posted January 14, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 14, 2023 Wanted to share the IoT (Internet of Things) Humidor I built last year. I am more comfortable with programing that woodworking, so this project was very much inspired by the many great projects I have seen here (China Hutch, Pi & Smart Humidor Build). When I started this project I thought it would last for years but I am already thinking about building a second as it is over filled! Finished and how it started as a $25 purchase from Facebook Lots of sanding Cut vents on the inside for airflow, sealed it up to keep it in. Added cedar backing then used a Boat dashboard plug set for 12V and 5V power Fitting the shelves (I made them from these SPANISH CEDAR boards) As for the technology hardware... The Oasis provides humidity and does have its own IoT features but I have not been a fan of how they are implementing. I leave that to just run and it has done a good job. The IoT features are lights, 2x fans and 2x hygrometers(Govee). To control the lights and each fan (top and bottom) I used 3x Shelly Plus 1 they use wifi and MQTT for a protocol. As for software... Everything comes into the home automation system I use, Home Assistant. The hygrometer data is stored in an InfluxDB and graphed on Grafana. I use the Home Assistant integration with Alexa for things like "Alexa, turn on the humidor lights". Also I played around with scripting running each fan (top and/or bottom) based on the hygrometer data (top and/or bottom). Haven't found any logic I am happy with so it is scripted to just run for 5 minutes every half hour and that seems to be going well. Finally I log my inventory and personal ratings in https://www.cigarscanner.com/ been a big fan of using it. Thanks for reading! 9 2
