Best Pairing for a Brut Champagne

Recommended Posts

Just out of curiosity, what cigar do you think would best pair with a Champagne?  Any specific cigar and specific Champagne pairings?

(For the latter, lets assume we are talking about actual Champagne.)

I personally would go with Cohiba Robusto as a standard pairing.  I did enjoy a Champagne over New Years that had nutmeg, clove and cinnamon notes (wish I remembered the name) that would go well with a Sir Winston.

I just booked a couple days in Key West and was thinking about buying some bubbly on the drive down later this month.

I would say HDM Epicure No. 2. I love pairing this cigar with champagne/cava/chardonnay wine. There is some sweetness and all around light notes that matches exactly with it.

If you have an HDM Ep. 2 try and tell me what you think.

That would be a good option too.

Something long and skinny like a Lancero, SdC 1, Fundadores, etc...  Elegant and refined.

Beyond that, I don't think it matters.  Whatever cigar you like with whatever Champagne you're serving.  Too much thought is put into pairings IMO.  Be it wine or cigars.

I think the array of answers here demonstrates how versatile champagne is as a pairing (whether with cigars or food). QdO is a great pairing. So are Bolivar, Cohiba, and ERDM. But YMMV depending on your palate.

Hoyo du Dauphin are gorgeous with Champagne. No Dauphin try an Epicure No 1 or anything Hoyo Skinny ....if that fails Epi2

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner! If you can find one with the old label, particularly. The perfect Champagne cigar.

I would agree with all this.   Anything in the old Hoyo series, and Yes the QDOCC is the perfect Champagne cigar.

The bready buttery brioche sweetness of the QDOCC is perfectly in tune with Champagne.

Yes and no. With beer, I've found the pairing matters more than people think. Of course, when I pair a beer with a cigar, it's usually a rare limited edition bomber bottle, so I'm cognizant of what flavor profiles I'm looking to compliment. An old world sour, like a geuze or kriek, will pair poorly with a chocolate forward cigar, but lights out with a wood forward profile like an h uppman. Get into a dubbel or something with a candy profile and you're looking at bolivar or partagas. Ipas pair well with almost anything except montecristo, tho the especial and especial no 2 are the exceptions that prove this rule.

I'm not into the champpers as much as many of you, but I'd venture to guess that you'd want something light, woody, or creamy.

I find that any kind of bubbly (Champagne, Prosecco, Cava, etc) goes well with pretty much any cigar.  Especially ones that are on the mild/medium bodied side. They compliment and not overpower the cigar.  With bolder cigars, it cleanses the palate nicely.  FWIW. I stopped Scotch/cigar pairings as I found the whiskey kills my taste buds.  I enjoy my whiskey on it's own now.

My best bubbly pairings have been BHK56, LESF, Siglo II, Punch DC, PSD4, E2.

100%.  Same with me.  Champagne cleanses the palate each sip and is the main reason I find it an ideal pairing.  Same rationale for Madeira which is equally high on my "alcohol with cigars" list.

As lame as it sounds, I am usually still water with cigars; room temp. 🥱

Ive always called the ERDM Choix Supreme the 'champagne' cigar. Its light and aromatic enough with a citrus character that really pairs well with champagne.

I'd love that blend in a longer format as I also agree that a Laguito No 1/2, Dalias etc would be fantastic

Anything Qd'O with age (old band) or NC I go Illusione Epernay.

Haven’t tried the pairing myself, but I read once that the Illusione Epernay was blended to be the ‘perfect’ cigar to have with champagne

For a NC, the Illusione’ Epernay is perfect— named for the home of many famous Champagne houses. In particular, Illusione’ produces a lonsdale — “”Le Matin” —in the Epernay line that would be a wonderful pairing with Champagne.
