BoliDan Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 Ah the ole zino line. They even used cream color bands to mimic the oily 80s-90s Davidoffs. Adorable
Edicion Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 I haven't been able to find a good page with history about this brand. If anyone has more info please do share. I know they're under Davidoff and do recall seeing them for a long time but I am not sure what their origins are. Since their revamp and marketing with the new Nicaragua line and yellow bands, I think a year or two ago, I started to notice them in shops and online. Looking at their website, the target audience looks to be new (and young) looking for an additional lifestyle accessory. The flavors and taste are a good match for just that.

I didn't know there was a Habana tobacco Zino out there too somewhere. The noteworthy thing about these modern ones are the amount of the cost of them! I do believe it's because of the Zino Davidoff name. They are very good cigars, but the cost of them is just beyond ridiculous.
BrightonCorgi Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 Zino was the son, no? They continued with some of the wine names like Mouton Cadet, they were a go to line of cigars for me in the early 90's. FWIW, never a plugged or poor draw Zino.
Puros Y Vino Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 I suspect the Habanos slip was added in. I'm aware of the brand but never saw them with these bands. Definitely a throwback to Davidoff's CC days.

Definitely a throwback to Davidoff's CC days. I've never seen those bands either. The "old" band to me was either a burgundy or brown. Was the Zino line ever manufactured in Cuba? I thought just the standard Davidoff Grand Cru & Chateau series were about it (or at least towards the end).
helix Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 From CA 1993 issue . No mention of Cuban Zinos . https://www.cigaraficionado.com/article/cuban-davidoffs-7798 1

A friend in Boston from KSA at that time (early 90's) use have a lot of Davidoff's from his dad. He grab them every time he went back on school break.

I think Zino was the Mr Davidoff we've come to know. His son may have released the "Zino" line as a tribute. https://www.nytimes.com/1994/01/17/obituaries/zino-davidoff-87-brought-prominence-to-havana-s-cigars.html

Zino is the patriarch of the business.
