Popular Post hawkeye5050 Posted December 19, 2022 Popular Post Posted December 19, 2022 Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series - Principe Maduro 46 x 4 1/2 With a 46 ring guage I have blurred the lines (tip to Marvin) by 1 as nothing about it feels greater than medium sized. Selected in honor of CA 2022 #8 rating 1st /3 - Instant Padron flavor. Delicious! A full body wave of warm relaxation comes from lighting this one up. It tastes of dark chocolate and wood. Retrohale - Toasted Marshmallow is brought to nose/mind, they are the same. 2nd /3 (+18min) - Flavors switch to toasted coconut and almond. It reminds me of a rich orgeat syrup. If you don't have that in your bar stock up here (https://www.liberandcompany.com/products/almond-orgeat-syrup) for Summer (hemisphere choice is yours). The cigar is a smooth as can be. Relaxation continues. 3rd /3 (+40min) - Cedar and Earth is what I taste but the sweetness of the syrup is still hanging out in the background. Me starting to wish it was a bigger Exclusivo so I had more time. Score: 94/100 Writers Note: Didn't look at CA score prior to my own, just that it ranked on the list. Reading it afterwards... Cool that they also said 94! On the dot! Is it a Nicaraguan puro or is that wrapper San Andres? I am too much of a novice to know or understand. 10

SCgarman Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 I have a box of the natural wrapper ones under the tree from the wife and daughter. All 1964's are great. 2
GaryK 54 Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 Love the Padron1964 Anniversario Principe. But I prefer the Natural over the Maduro. I agree with Rob, this is my favourite non-Cuban cigar - by a long margin! 1
SpecialK Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 I have one of these that I've been resting over 18 months.... Time to break it out

Is it true that their Natural vs Maduro boxing is just a function of their color sort process at the end of aging? Lighter ones go in Natural boxes and darker wrappers go in Maduro... but that is the only difference.

Reminds me to buy a few of each and light em up.
HoyoFan Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 I’ve heard this natural over maduro preference a few times now in the ‘64 line. I’d love to hear the reason folks prefer them. What core flavors are you picking up on the natural?
hawkeye5050 Posted December 19, 2022 Author Posted December 19, 2022 I think I heard it from a cigar shop but looking on reddit a few people have posted similar things "All they do is separate the cigars by the shade of the wrapper btw. It's the same tobacco and same process." "Even the Maduro And natural are the same blend they just separate them by color, dark ones get classified Maduro light ones natural. Still rather get more input here from someone.

Capn_Jackson Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 The Padron 1964 line in general is excellent. I prefer the Hermoso and Imperial, or Exclusivo, but the Principe is a great quicker smoke. I love the natural wrapper a little more, but the Maduros are also excellent!

If I have two sticks of RASS, one bordering on Maduro and the other Colorado/Colorado Claro I'm taking the lighter wrapped one and passing on the dark

That is not a Maduro wrapper on the RASS. It may "look" like a maduro wrapper, but it is not. It is simply a dark leaf/colour graded. Maduro means "ripe". True Maduro is achieved through extending fermentation at a different temp and then aged longer again. It is a higher cost process. Most cigars flogged as "Maduro" are not Maduro at all. They are treated one way or another (there are various ways) to be made to "look" Maduro. 5 1
helix Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 Would Padron Maduro wrapper be made properly ?

Yup, they cook it. Literally. https://www.nextcigar.com/blogs/cigar-smoking-tips/maduro-wrappers-boiled-or-natural All that extra heat and moisture in one spot! Cheap/Bad Maduros are some of the worst cigars I've ever smoked. Real maduros can be very good though. I haven't smoked a Padron in probably 5 years, but as Rob says, I would be absolutely stunned if Padron was just coloring sorting OR boiling their maduro leaf. 2

My point was to mainly differentiate the difference in flavors I get even from two distinct shades of wrappers on a RASS as an example. This could all be psychological, but a nice chestnut colored wrapper cigar tasted much better than a RASS with an extremely dark wrapper. We all have our wrapper shade preferences. I prefer brunettes. Never had a good blonde. I don't like strong peat in a single malt scotch. Prefer Les Pauls to Stratocasters. Excuse me while I relight my PLPC and take a sip of my Scotch 😁 2

Chalk and cheese again. It would be a great half day masterclass mucking around with good and bad wrapper. Light and dark alike. 5

I can't fathom Jorge Padron cutting corners and doing anything nonsensical such as dyeing or artificially manipulating Maduro leaf wrapper. This company was built from the ground up with blood, sweat and tears. Integrity being at the forefront. 1
