Cigars I should be loving....but for one reason or another have just disappointed?

I had another Punch Royal Seleccion 11 from 03. I normally love this cigar but this specific 25 SLB  has been a disappointment to date. I have 8  left and no real confidence that anything will change. I hope...live in hope..but I light another  one up and all I get from this specific box is a hot blandness. Construction is fine. Are they "bad?"  maybe not but they are poor and way below the standard/experience that I have come to expect over the years. This is not an issue of storage since purchase, simply blend inconsistency.

Do you have a similar box that just perplexes you?

A great looking box of El Principe from LGR 17. Golden, smell sweet in the box, but they all taste ashy and bitter. I really should leave them alone.

Fonseca No 1.

We hear so much talk about some Non Cubans being close Cuban cigars . Well I think the F 1 is as close to a non Cuban as you can get from a Cuban . You see it makes no sense .

By that I mean they are bloody awful . I think they are at the very bottom end of Cuban cigars. That said I would smoke one any day over a non Cuban. 😎🌴

Agree with RDB . Not a fan of the El Principe

San Cristobal.  Never had one that more better than average.  For me, the worst of the new release marcas.  LCDH series looked like masterpieces, but beyond the initial '07 run, they were ho hum.  Unique cinnamon thing going and cool vitolas, but that was it.

I had a cab of '08 HU Mag 50's.  Loved this cigar when it came out and grabbed a cab.  Layed it down and started sampling.  Worst bunch of cigars that stick in my memory.  After about five years I just smoked what I had left as yard gars more or less.  This shocked me so bad I would not order any more of them for years.  :tantrum:  :lol3:

Many got bad boxes of LGR 17s me included. Just tossed two out yesterday due to plugged. Perfecdraw did nothing. When tbey do draw maybe 1 in 5 has been decent. Had many great boxes of these so this iwont deter me from buying more in future.

Ha!! Exact same thing I did. My first box of initial release were so good. Bought a 50 Cab. Terrible. Never developed. Tasteless. Still have half a cab left. I gave a few out to see if it was just me. Nope. Same feedback. Now these were much darker wrappers than my original release. Not sure if it played a factor.

UBM Jun 17 Connie A. Been sampling 1 or 2 a year from this box and they haven’t stopped sucking. The main problem is they’ve all been underfilled wind tunnels, which is the only thing worse than being plugged - completely ruins any chance of experiencing their flavor profile.

a box of 19 MC #5 's.   I keep waiting for them not to suck.... I revisited a RG Perla that was less than great earlier and it turned the corner. I had hoped the MC5 would have also... no such luck...

The most disappointing cigar that I ever had was an Opus X Perfection.

the opus line has some duds. the angel’s share and lost city are terrible for the price point.

Agreed - I've got a box of LGR DIC 17 Principe's, and much like your experience, only about 1 in 5 have been OK. There's a Principe on the bottom row in that box that has to be the worst looking cigar in my collection, awfully underfilled and with a wrapper that reminds me of some old, grey, liver spotted hands.

Needless to say, I’m saving it for the next dog rocket review weekend.

Upmann Connie two. I can sense the touch of Punch and I should love them, but my current box is a bit green and tannic.  Unfortunately a 5 year nap seems to be the only option

25* RaSS 19. I love them in 50 cab or slightly box pressed from dress box. But that particular one is just terrible. Either plugged, crappy taste or both

I've never had a RASS that I've agreed with either.

I had a box of RJ Ex#4s I smoked through from....2017 I think it was? Anyway this was the box from HELL. To this date I've never experienced wrappers that were SO averse to burning. Even with *extensive* dry boxing, wrappers would just repeatedly kick my lighter in the balls and laugh.

Fortunately, there were at least 2 out of the box that were magical and for that reason, I bought another box before the price increases. (Oh how I wish I had bought more.) But if it wasn't for those 2, I'd had written the Ex#4s off for life...still, the remaining 90+% went right in the garbage. That box taught me a lot about the fleeting yet incredible highs, and too often lows of Habanos cigars.

2017 has come up a lot in this thread, was it that bad a year?

In many ways I think it was, but it’s also the year that’s now got 5 years on it, and as El Prez sez, if it hasn’t turned into something by year 5, it’s probably never going to.

Another vote for Principe... just thin, bitter, nothingness.

My box is LGR ABR 18

Monte 2 - my favorite marca, and I’ve never had one that wasn’t bland.

Monte 4 from 2021-2022. Everyone I've had have been bland with hard draw, to the point of being unsmokable. I've tried ROTT, drybox, up & low humidity. Just can't get one that is even good enough to enjoy.
