Let sleeping dogs lie?

Australian company Chimera Taxidermy created the eccentric accessory for the mourning family so the pooch could "head home".

Owner Maddy, 29, explained they had preserved the family's pet as a pelt to create a memorial that will last a lifetime.

She said it had been "tanned and turned to leather so the fur won't fall out", allowing it to take pride of place in the customer's lounge.

The taxidermist compared the process to people keeping the ashes of a lost loved one, as the family "wanted to keep a part of him forever".

I love my dogs almost as much as my kids.  I have my all my pooches in urns and will be kept next to them when it is my turn.

...and even I can't imagine this one.  Looking at their faces would just be too much.

Yikes!  But I wouldn’t doubt if my wife does that with our dog when it’s day comes. Creepy

I don’t think so.....My pets have been and are family members. I heard Alan Alda interviewed about his book, Never Have Your Dog Stuffed: And Other Things I've Learned. If I remember correctly he was pretty traumatized as a kid by the stuffed dog.  I do have quite a few urns with the remains of our digs around and after having made many dozens of urns for human and animal remains I have some pretty strong opinions about the correct handling of them.

Met an Inuit hunter on Baffin Island who made gloves from his dead sled dog. He was practical and proud.
