What's up for the weekend?

First blue sky weekend in a while locally but still getting over the lurgy so quiet one Saturday with maybe a late afternoon cigar and rum while I am prepping a tomahawk for dinner. I have a Trini Fundadores calling my name. 

My mum called me yesterday to remind me it was All Saints day on Monday. Mum is 84 and sharp of mind and tongue 

you may be asking what does "All Saints Day" mean.......to be fair I have not enough interest to Google it but if mum thinks it is important then I had better comply. 

Apparently I am to take her to her dad's gravesite on Monday.  I politely said that I can't do it Monday but can do it Sunday. So that is what I am doing, although she isn't happy as All Saints is on Monday. I may have mentioned that no one at the cemetery is really going to know and that while we are there we can measure her up. Looking forward to Sunday

I ended up with a 3 day weekend. I had to go to the North Carolina department of motor vehicles today to update our address. 6 hours later, we are now NC residents. Imagine incompetence coupled with a sincere desire not to make things easy and you have the gist. Debbie finally brought them to their knees when they asked for current insurance certs. Ours started in Nov 2021 and were current thru Nov 2022. They said they couldn't accept anything from the future and she asked what happened in the timeframe between the two.

Left all 4 of them stunned... I started to explain the fundamentals of quantum mechanics until they finally surrendered and gave us our licenses.

NOTE TO US TRAVELERS: All DMV are the same, regardless of state. Their job is to make it a completely miserable experience and they take pride in their work.

Football and drinks this weekend!!!

What am I doing this weekend? Watching Game 1 and 2 of the World Series of course!

In between that there's catching up with my Godfather and Parents to show them pictures of our recent trip to Greece, doing yard work, listening to the new Beatles' boxset of Revolver with the original mono mix, 2022 Stereo mix and interesting out-takes and ummm...cigars and some Old-Fashioneds (while watching Baseball in fine 27°C or 80°F weather, for once!).

All Saints Day? Really, El Pres? Now you tell your mum tomorrow that of course you know what All Saints Day is. It's the day we remember all the saints of the church who don't have a dedicated day of the calendar set aside for them, both known and unknown. And to commemorate all the saints who have led a faithful life in dedication to Christ, like your mum! (and Dad...and yourself!).

P.S. You could tell your mum that All Saints Day really should be celebrated on November 1st, which is Tuesday as the church dedicates All Hallow's Eve the day before on October 31st (this is where the idea of Halloween originated). But personally, I wouldn't as no doubt you've got things to do on Tuesday, right?

Weekend? I got the entire week off. It took threats of violence but here I am. New injector cups and injectors in the truck. State volleyball tournament playoffs to get to the finals for my granddaughter on Tuesday. Starting footers for the new house ALL of next week.

And oh but the cigars I have lined up while I’m home. Smoke’m if you got ‘em week. 😁

If everything goes according to plan I’m thinking next Saturday night will be Esplendidos and Pol Roger night. 🤞

I just finished the first week of a three week murder trial that causes me to spend Sunday thru Friday out of town at a rural holiday Inn. Spending Saturday with the wife and then driving back down with a Trinidad Fundadores in hand to do week 2.

I am also supping a Zacapa 23 tonight. Going into a NC November starting tomorrow. The Shopkeep at Apex Cigar Lounge allows me to break the "Smoke it here, buy it here" rule because I always buy a stick when I come in, then burn whatever I'm in the mood for. He has a well-stocked walk in and several NC's I've never tried. 30 days of NC November!

I went to a celebration of life today (Saturday) for a coworker. Was a wonderful intimate event where we all just shared stories about him and talked shit. Just the way he would’ve wanted it. I found out that he had a thing for mentos, his sweet treat he’d always have. Crazy thing is, while on my way there I stopped and picked up gum and decided on the mentos gum. I don’t know what it means but I love those coincidences. I’m not a religious man but I do believe in a spiritual connectedness.

The memorial for my co worker really reminded me that all the material shit we accumulate through our life time; car, house, boat, etc. We can’t take with us. What matters in the end are the relationships with people and the impact we have on them.

Looking forward to trick or treating with our two year old on Monday. She’s dressing up as Elsa from Frozen, mom is Olaf, and dad is Anna. 🤣
